Nice place for a few days! Just across the street there is a quiet almost private beach. Tuk tuk to mirissa beach and all the restaurants 150 rs. You can walk but the street is busy... Surf Shack is the nearest option for, only a few minutes walk in the next bay, very nice too. You'll find a shop for water etc just next to the guesthouse.

Had just spent a week touring around the countryside before getting to Mirissa. This was a welcome break from the rush with a nice outside area to relax and great breakfast which was always on time Very helpful staff with clean and spacious rooms.

After 2 weeks 'on the road' across the country, we were looking forward for a few calm days in Mirissa, enjoying the beach and improving on our basic surfing skills...
The peacock wings guesthouse turned out to be just the right place for that. While directly at the road, the 3 rooms are all back in the garden, so relatively quiet, each with a little patio facing the garden where breakfast is served. Make sure you try hoppers for your Sri Lankan breakfast! Our room was simple but had all we needed, very clean, and comes with a good moskito net. Only downside is a bed that is not entirely long enough for a 2 meter man :). While you can go to a small, quiet stretch of beach across the street, the main beach of mirissa is only a 5-10 mins walk away. Close enough for us, and far enough to make sure we were not disturbed by the bars and restaurants on the beach.

The owner family is extremely nice and welcoming. Since we were off for surfing a couple of times early in the morning, Shara was flexible around serving breakfast early or late except for a small time slot where she brought her kids to school. She recommended a wonderful little spa in the backyards of Mirissa (small&simple spa) - great massages in a wonderful setting at a very reasonable price.

All in all, we would definitely return when staying in Mirissa!

We stayed for 4 nights in early February 2014 and would rate it 3 1/2 stars overall if we could. The room itself is large and very clean with tasteful furniture and decor. There is also a powerful ceiling fan (no AC) and an intact mosquito net for the bed. A large patio is in front of the room where breakfast is served each morning. The guesthouse is on the main, hectic road (Galle Rd) but the rooms sit behind the owner's house which mostly shields you from the noise and chaos on the street.

Things we like:
Cleanliness
Spacious room
Breakfast served on own balcony
Garden area in front of rooms
Location (away from main beach but not too far)

Things that need improvement:
-Room ventilation (the room boils in late afternoon/evening even though outside temp is cool)
-Oddities with service (serving one eggwhite omelet for 2 guests [we didn't ask for eggwhites, where are the yolks?], western breakfast given on all days but one where sri lankan hoppers were given (we would have appreciated the choice each day), asked us to write review after 1 night and again on day 2
-No toiletries in bathroom other than 2 pre-used soaps
-Little knowledge of transport outside Mirissa
-Bed way too short (for someone 6'2" AND for someone 5'5") and included one blanket made for a single bed
-Flimsy furniture (lots of creaking and weaves chairs are in need of repair)
-Breakfast served at 9am each day so may be problem for early risers like us, but she was happy to serve us earlier on our last day so we could catch a bus
-wifi is spotty like most places in Sri Lanka but works well once you get the signal

Overall, we feel the guesthouse is a good value but people over 150 lbs and taller people may have some discomfort with the bed and chairs. The host is nice but do not rely on her for onward information. With some fine tuning this guesthouse could be fantastic.

we already booked from Galle and were not disappointed. We loved the garden with divers flowers and plants, the beautiful little beach just over the street and the personal charme of our hosts. The Bus stop (Bandaramula express holt) is just at the gate to Peacock Wings.

We were unable to get into the Spice House for another two days and the stayed at Peacock Wings which is two doors down. The room is basic and clean and includes breakfast albeit cold eggs. The omelette that was served one morning was two omelettes for three people but there was copious amounts of cold toast to make up for it!! What was most disappointing was that we wanted our clothes washed and we had quite a bit to wash - the washing took two days to complete and came back virtually ruined - the darks and the lights had been mixed and our clothes came back with hugh black marks all over - very disappointed and the owner seemed to take no responsibility. We ran out of toilet paper and the owner told us to buy our own water - give it a miss.

Room Tip: Three rooms only

We stayed here for 2 nights, mainly to go whale watching, but loved the relaxed setting of this guest house. We stayed in one of the spacious and clean bungalows. It had its own terrace set in a beautiful garden. Our hostess was amazing. Despite us not having the breakfast (due to wanting to save money) she still brought us tea in the morning. She also organised for us to go on a whale watching boat with a tuk tuk to pick us up, and was so helpful in finding out onward travel options for us. A very relaxed stay....and we saw a blue whale!!
