“OK facilities, bad communication”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

We wanted to book this place as we liked the location and price, facilities and reviews were OK too. But we ran across an unexpected problem - weird way of the staff's communication. First, the guy in charge of making reservations with guests seemed to barely understand English and had to ask the other guy (who appeared to be his senior) for help every other sentence. Secondly, when we were ready to book and came to pay the deposit, we were offered some strange receipt saying that we paid 2000 rupees for "Transport Advance" (?) on room we booked and providing no identification details, such as name of the guest, period of stay or even the amount due to pay motivating this with the following phrase "No problem, next time you come, I will be here and I remember" which was obviously not a good business talk.

Staff are only somewhat interested. The manager only somewhat interested (he seemed to arrive once a day)
The rooms are cheaply put together. No effort has been spared to do things cheaply. So expect taps to be broken, water to run out of the shower unit into the room.
Much better is available.
An indicator is that the beach is lined by small guest houses which set up tables on the beach for seafood dinners. A very good feature of the place. Why comes here? No one.

Room Tip: Try next door

The hotel is a fine place with a swimming pool and close to the beach on the eastern edge of the bay, quite comfortable and out of the noisy cafes further down the beach. The rooms were not value for money: small, stuffed with furniture, stained drinking glasses, unclean bathroom, taps not properly fitted, overflowing bathroom as drainage was blocked, and all that for a so called deluxe room costing EUR 100 a night. The manager offered us a free dinner which we happily accepted and which was good. The breakfast is really nice, compared to most other hotels we had been staying in. The staff in the dining area seems to be a bit too junior to speak appropriate English and to understand that starters need to be served before, not at the same time as main meals and need a bit more training. The deluxe room was supposed to have a sea view also: it did not, and the view was blocked by a concrete building making it half a sea view. On top of this, we were wrongly informed about train departure times at the hotel service desk, which left us being dropped at the train station one hour after the train had departed and 4 more hours to wait for the next one.....Compared to many other places in Sri Lanka this place is highly overrated, and the management could think of offering a much better value for money when they continue to charge these prices. We walked past the Mirissa Paradise hotel: a beatiful hotel with similarly priced rooms, better go for that one!

Room Tip: Agoda gives you the impression this is a high end hotel as their room rates are deducted from 200 do...

Hotel service was not even close nice Sri Lankan culture. The Hotel owner and employees were arrogant and the service was poor. Be aware that the Hotel restaurant employees are using old trick for cheating more money from their customers. After you have paid your food they will claim that your payment is 500 short. Calculate the payments always in front of waiter if for some reason you are choosing this hotel / it's restaurant.

This is a great hotel right in the center of it all. I don't understand what people are complaining about. The hotel was very clean, the staff were almost always around cleaning things up as it's on the beach and gets sandy. The manager/owner was SUPER AWESOME. Friendly, helpful, smiling, and just super knowledgable about the area. Never pushy, always there to help more if he could. The breakfast in the morning was great with western and sri lankan food as well as tons of fresh delicious fruit. Rooms were comfortable and the sound of the ocean right outside pushed me to sleep every night. People will always find a reason to complain about things, but don't have faith in the negative, rather the positive here.

The positives first. This hotel is right on the beach and has a small pool. That is it! We paid for a deluxe room which turned out to be dark and shabby with old rickety furniture. The sockets did not work and our view was over a concrete roof. So disappointed.

Room Tip: Be very careful if you book this hotel. I think there are better rooms than the one we got.

This was another shabby overpriced ripoff hotel. Over £100 per night, worth £30 max.
The staff were a friendly shambles - 25 minutes for a beer anyone?
The rooms are shabby, blood on the mosquito nets, plug sockets useless, bed had plastic undersheet making it sweaty, the balcony overlooked a rooftop and the road, mediocre shower.
The pool is small but nice, and it is right on the beach which is why we chose it.

Room Tip: Avoid unless dirt cheap
