The Visalam is a wonderful place to relax and feel comfortable in quiet surroundings. Lazing around at the pool, a late afternoon village walk, a visit to the local market in the morning is about the scope of the activity there.
The hotel offers excellent cuisine with best quality Chettinad food (including a choice of seafood). Management and the crew are charming and very attentive and helpful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We spent a full day and a couple of nights there and could easily have added another day.

This was the BEST place we stayed in India! We came from another CGH Earth property in Pondicherry so we knew the standards were high but this was something else. The property is stunning and the staff are charming. Each of breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in a different outdoor restaurant and there is a beautiful outdoor pool and jacuzzi, with additional towels provided. Our room was spotlessly clean, absolutely huge, with a gorgeous wooden bed, several seats to relax on, a desk, a big bathroom and complimentary water. We met the chef and were invited to choose our evening meal. The food was AMAZING. The best vegetarian food we had in India. There are plenty of non-veg options but we chose veg here and it was superb. George the chef clearly takes great pleasure in his work and came to talk to us about our choices and the ingredients. He said he would email us the recipes we'd particularly enjoyed, and in the end actually gave us printouts of them as we left. All the staff were delightful and I highly highly recommend the half day excursion with Ramu the Guest Services Manager, if you get the chance. We saw so many fascinating things that we simply couldn't have done independently, and learnt so much. I can't recommend this place highly enough. We stayed 2 nights and I wanted to stay 2 weeks! But that related to the luxury and service. In terms of things to do in this location, a couple of days is enough as this is in a very small village with not much to do. We ate at the hotel both nights, had half a day relaxing by the pool and did the half day excursion.

Visalam is just what you would expect from a heritage property , immaculately maintained and the team running the show is par excellence in hospitality ! The chef and kitchen team delivered some outstanding local cuisine and suffice to say we were treated like true Chettiars ! Brilliant !

My name is Hariharan & me & my family stayed here from the night of 21st September 2013 to the afternoon of 22nd September 2013. It was one of the most memorable (good) stays we have ever had. My elder daughter keeps raving about this place & also says it is one of her most memorable stays. The rooms & the bathrooms along with the rooms are wonderfully sparkling & amazingly clean & pristine. The rooms are very spacious. The bathroom so wonderfully clean that we hesitant to use it. & this should tewll you how clean it was. Guest manager Mr. Ramu & Ms. Beulah were very gracious & made us totally at home. It would be amiss on my part if I did not mention Chef George who was wonderful in his department & served us his culinary delights. We being pure veggie's he rustled up something wonderful for us & even went to the extent of making something we had suggested. The swimming pool is very clean. There are some antique PALLANKUZHI SETS in the common lounge. No TV's in the rooms, so you are left to yourself. The ground floor rooms open out on to a balcony & then on to a nicely maintained lawn. On this lawn is an old bullock cart. The hotel also arranges trips by bullock cart, though we could not make it on the specified dates. The common lounge also has an antique Philips radio & a modern LED TV. The central atrium is superb & reminiscent of the splendor in which the Chettiyars of the by-gone era must have lived in. All in all a wonderful, invigorating experience. Wish we could have stayed here longer. When we departed the whole staff were kind enough to come & give us a send off, which made us all very emotional though it was only a 24 hour stay. We will definitely return back to this place & spend a longer time here.

We have stayed in many hotels / heritage homes / resorts, in various places including Dubai, Malaysia, Maldives, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Shimla, Ooty, Kodai, Munnar, etc. But we had never experienced a peace, warmth, security & satisfaction, which Visalam provides.

This was our 3rd visit to Visalam (within a year)

No words are enough to explain the hospitality & sincerity of each & every one at Visalam. . . . Jiji, Ramu (RC), Lijo, George, Pandiyamma (left), Sindhu, Beulah, etc. We feel that it’s our second home.

Their traditional welcome drink (Nannari juice) is special & superb. Jiji & RC’s warm welcome made us so happy & energized; we forgot the tiredness of long drive. George’s food is delicious! Lijo has a special way of serving food, with his witty dialogues.

Enjoying the candle light dinner at the first floor open restaurant is unforgettable. We could see a long view of trains passes through karaikudi. . . It’s a unique experience.

We bathe in the extra big and special bath rooms, slept peacefully in spacious, clean, neat, cool bedroom. . . it was awesome.

Jiji & RC are doing wonders at Visalam!!! Congrats friends!!! Congrats CGH!!! We will meet again.
