“A true 'hideaway' in the Caribbean! Can't wait to go back!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2007

I was lucky enough to come across a brief description of this resort entitled "Seclusion", while searching ---.com for the perfect honeymoon spot for my wife and I. The resort delivered exactly what we were looking for. Complete and total seclusion/relaxation with exceptional service.

If you're looking for a place with a lot of "bells and whistles", do not book here. You will be treated, however, to unbelievable caribbean scenery, outstanding food, and an unforgettable time. Although they've been doing this for years for many guests, we were always made to feel special.

If you can get a cottage on the south side of the island, I would highly recommend #17 or #18. There is a lot of privacy on this side of the island. Make sure to bring your bug spray if you're going in the summer months...I didn't have so much of a problem but my wife is a bug magnet! The strong breeze coming off the water makes up for the lack of air conditioning during the night but be prepared for a little warmth at night. It's all part of the island charm!

The food was fantastic and we were able to try a number of things that we'd never had (or even heard of) before. We made great friends with some of the wait staff and the bartenders. All are extremely friendly and always willing to share stories.

Make sure to take a hike to the top of Marni Hill and, for the athletic types, take out one of the Ocean Kayaks and paddle around the island (How often can you say you kayaked around an entire island!??).

We had a lot of fun visiting with the island labradors who were at our porch every morning to greet us. We are dog people and loved having the visitors and getting to play 'fetch' with them on our beach.

We will definitely travel back here as soon as we have the opportunity!

  • Liked — The seclusion. Wonderful not to hear a TV or a phone ringing!
  • Disliked — My wife would probably say the bugs.
  • Tips/Secrets — Must bring: Bug Spray, Water shoes, Sunscreen (not the kind of place you want to have a sunburn!)

Perfect! secluded bliss, great food, great staff; do nothing or island hop. I recommend a day sail on the Jamblaya to Tabago Cay.

  • Liked — Rustic charm but very well done.
  • Disliked — No outdoor bath tub to cloud gaze.

Just returned from a pre Christmas holiday to PSV and after reading previous reviews and carrying out research, we found the place to be just what we were expecting. It is an isolated retreat "Robinson Crusoe" style. What you are paying for here is the personal service rather than manicured grounds and sophisticated facilities. The cottages were spacious, private and comfortable. The lack of air conditioning wasn't too pronounced, as there were always quite strong breezes (we were in a beach front cottage at the base of the rather aptly named Windy Hill). Rechargeable torches were provided and these were necessary as there was not much lighting once outside of the cottages. Even if you book a lift up to the restaurant for dinner, a torch is still advisable as the private path to some cottages can be very dark. If you want to walk to the restaurant, sensible shoes are a must as we found the paths were not always swept and could be quite muddy and not suitable for high heels!!
We found that the flag system worked well, provided you remembered to fill out your request forms in plenty of time; loads of fun if you are organized! If you forget or if there are any problems, it is difficult to remedy since there are no phones! We did enjoy the early morning coffee and breakfast being brought to us on the beach each day and drinks at sundown.
Most days we went to the restaurant for lunch and ate from the buffet, which was adequate. The weekly beach BBQ was great. We also went to the restaurant for our evening meals, which was pleasant. My only gripe was that there was not very much variation for vegetarians. There was only one option on the menu and this happened to be pasta every day. One day I asked if I could have a different sauce as I didn't fancy roast garlic but it seemed that this could not be catered for.
The staff were very accommodating and quickly learnt which rooms we were staying in, so that our meals and drinks could be charged directly to our bill. We never had to sign for anything or received a slip, so hoped that they had remembered the room numbers correctly. When we received our bill at the end of the stay it was very difficult to check as the bill was not itemized. Also the nightly rate had been quoted to us in US$ and the bill was presented to us in local currency.
Evenings are a quiet affair, or they were until a young baseball- capped crowd turned up, who appeared to be friends of the new managers. Then a raucous booze fest lasting several days of our stay developed. Apart from them, we never hear another soul and that's how it should be!

  • Liked — Early morning coffee and being brought breakfast on the beach
  • Disliked — paths and patio area weren't swept / cleaned
  • Tips/Secrets — Take plenty of books and a snorkel

After investigating a number of possibilities, we settled on PSV for our honeymoon, and wouldn't have changed a thing about our time there. It was truly amazing. One of the real highlights of staying there-apart from the complete privacy, beautiful surroundings, and being waited on hand and foot-was the staff. They were laid-back, friendly, and made a concerted effort to interact with us. We had a number of memorable conversations, and felt that we had established some new friendships by the time we left.

PSV is an ideal place to just wind down. Because we live in NYC, we were in need of some serious down time. PSV couldn't have been more ideal. The waters surrounding the island are absolutely gorgeous. We were in the water each and every day, at least twice. Snorkeling was superb-although our underwater cameras failed to really do justice to the beauty of the reefs and their colorful residents. Afternoons were spent napping in the hammock on our deck, or the comfy deck chairs, from which we had a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. We did take a hike one day up the highest peak on the island, which was a challenge(definitely wear sneakers!), but afforded us some great views of the island's surroundings, as well as introduce us to some more of the islands wildlife, like crabs and elaborate spiders. On one of the cooler evenings, we played a lively game of tennis on the resort's top notch astroturf court.

The food was wonderful, and even indulgent. We had breakfast delivered each day to our cottage, #22 up on the hillside. Lunch was probably our least favorite meal, but that's not saying much, considering there were lots of options. Dinners were delicious, and on most evenings we took advantage of the seafood offerings, which were fresh and delicious. The barracuda was sublime! On a couple of evenings, we had dinner delivered to our cottage, opting for a quiet game of Scrabble or backgammon over the more social atmosphere of the resort's Dining Room. It was nice to have that option. The two beach barbecues were outstanding, and a nice change of pace.

Other highlights of our trip included our picnic trip to Petit St. Richardson, a small secluded sandbar that allowed us to get a taste of what it must be like to be stranded on a deserted island. This was part of the honeymoon package. Also included in the package were in-cottage massages by the resort's masseuse, Lisa, who lives on Petit Martinique, one of the islands next door to PSV. Both of us were totally blissed out after our massages. On the last night, the Richardson's(the resort's owners) invited all the guests to their home on the island for cocktails. It was a friendly, intimate gathering, and only made us feel more welcome. The only downside to our trip was that it had to end.

We would go back in a heartbeat.

  • Liked — Private, simple, comfortable
  • Disliked — The pillows were too big! And we seemed to have a mouse lurking around at night.
  • Tips/Secrets — Take advantage of all PSV has to offer...and RELAX.

PSV was everything we had hoped for: private, romantic, fantastic service and food: Pure Paradise. We were pleased with the way the PSV people in Florida followed up with us, asking what our flight and overnight accomodation plans were so that they could plan our flight from Barbados to Union. We had a long flight to Barbados with a lay over, so spending the night there and traveling to PSV the next day worked well for us. That way we were refreshed and ready for fun. We stayed at the Blue Horizon in Christ's Church parish. Nothing special but it was adequate for the job.
We opted for "seclusion" when we requested our cottage at PSV and truly believe we had the BEST cottage on the island, Number 4. We had a phenomenal view of the Atlantic, complete privacy, large deck and flowers everywhere! Don't worry about the lack of air conditioning because the constant breeze was more than enough! And although bug coils were provided, we never needed them.
We found the food exceptional and had breakfast delivered every morning to get our day started. We had no desire to try the lunch menu because the buffet was so good. Afternoon tea was brought to our room every day at 5 PM and it was the perfect way to transition from play time to our romantic dinners. My husband wished he'd brought more dressy shirts for dinner but honestly, khakis and golf shirts are fine. Dinner was wonderful and if you get the chance, try the Guinness ice cream! (Yes...Guinness!) I had fish every night but one but there was always a pasta/vegetarian dish and pork, chicken and/or beef on the menu as well. There are no heavy sauces or dressings. Everything is light and fresh.
I agree with bringing beverages from Barbados if you can, as drinks are a little pricey, but if you plan for the cost it's not that big of a deal. The laundry service was reliable and our clothes came back looking great. Of course there's a hair dryer, iron, ironing board and a drying rack in the room. Don't even think about styling your hair due to the constant breeze, though! Bring plenty of sunblock or a t-shirt to wear if you're out in the sun a lot. Even though we were careful, we both still burned.
We tried going out on the Jambalaya but our trip got cancelled due to boat trouble. Because we scheduled our sail for our last day there we were unable to reschedule- my only disappointment! If you think you'd like to go, I'd advise booking it early in your stay- just in case. Jeff doesn't take her out if the weather is bad either. We didn't need any entertainment other than the sailboats, wind surfing, kayaks, and snorkeling. We're audiophiles and were worried about the lack of music but there's a CD player in the room. (You can borrow CDs from the boutique). We brought our iPod and portable speakers but we could have gotten by with the speakers in the room.
Snorkeling was fantastic. We came face to face with three Baracuda our last day there. Note: don't wear anything shiny in the water!!! They were just curious and not aggressive. I also saw a large sting ray.
The boutique has nice souvenirs and I was surprised that their prices were reasonable. But don't get caught needing something like cold medicine- that one ran us $21 for a box of phenylephrine!
We planned on a play day in Barbados on the way home and stayed at the Hilton Resort. Although it's beautiful, we liked PSV more. It ended up costing us the same for one night at the Hilton (dinner, drinks, and lunch the next day, taxi fare to and from the airport, etc) as it would have to spend the extra night at PSV. Live and learn!
We can't wait to go back. Don't chose PSV if you like a wild night life or flashing lights. But if you like to be treated like royalty as you do as little as possible, this is the place for you!

  • Liked — The privacy and beauty
  • Disliked — nothing!

WOW! My husband and I returned from a week long stay celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary and what a stay it was. I had been planning (and looking forward to this trip) for over a year and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it EXCEEDED my wildest expectations. We returned tanned, relaxed and forever touched by PSV.

This is not the place for you if you desire entertainment, constant activity, immediate attention or do not like your traveling companion. However, if you want pampering, solitude and a chance to reconnect (or rediscover) that someone special, this is the place for you. If you desire the solitude of a deserted island combined with 5 star service, then PSV is good vacation choice. The island and atmosphere was lovely as we had as much or as little privacy as we wanted. The flag system was FABULOUS and being "out of touch" was a true pleasure. Many days, we saw virtually no one much to our contentment. Over the course of our week, we moved from the rapid pace of North American time to a much slower plod of Caribbean time. (In fact, we did not see one single clock on the entire island.) While the service was not perfect (and whose is??), one was able to overlook any shortcomings just by taking a deep breath and enjoying the beautiful view.

Our cottage (#4) was beautifully appointed, the service was very good, the food exemplary and the other "stranded" guests were a pleasure to meet. For some of them, PSV is a regular hiatus from their busy lives and we can see why. From early morning coffee to turn down service at night, PSV met all our needs--physical and emotional. Whether we desired frozen drinks in our hammock on the beach or a relaxing massage on the patio overlooking the ocean, the staff at PSV made us feel pampered.

We only hope that we get the chance to join the "repeat" crowd again very soon!

I was looking to find total seclusion when I selected PSV for last year's vacation. No phones, no televisions and no cars sounded ideal. It took four plane transfers and a boat to get there, but it was all very much worth it - from the moment we arrived, I knew we made the right decision.

We asked for a cottage on one of the hills, but got a perfect location on the beach instead. It was quite hot in August, but there was almost always a nice breeze. We enjoyed the quiet sounds of the breeze, birds and sea, rose with the sun every morning and watched the stars and moon rise every night. During the day, we read, snorkeled, walked and simply relaxed and enjoyed one another's company.

The coral and rocks at the shore-line was never a bother, as it made for incredible snorkeling, and was beautiful from the shore. There was significant variation in the Atlantic side shoreline even during the ten days we were there, so do not be surprised when the beach does not look exactly like the pictures.

The cottage was simple and beautiful. The staff was polite, and always attentive to the exact degree we wished. We were never interrupted or intruded on, but somehow, there was never anything we wanted that we didn't promptly have access to. One night I joked that I was going to write a request and raise the flag to ask for visit from one of the Richardsons' dogs. The next morning, as I was enjoying my coffee and watching the sunrise, up the beach paths comes one of the yellow labs. It was quite funny, and I was amazed by the dog's telepathic skills!

It has been said before, but bears repeating: do not go to PSV expecting to be entertained by other guests, nightlife or the staff. It is a perfect place to visit with someone you truly enjoy, and only if you enjoy peace and quiet.

We are eagerly anticipating our return visit next month.
