“Amazing experience (Kayak and climbing in the glacier)”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We were with my friend about to stay less than one day in Puerto Rio Tranquilo, but the activities of El Puesto convinced us to stay 3 days!
We didn't stay at the very pretty hotel, but we share the amazing activities there!

Indeed, Rio Tranquilo is famous for the marble caves, but the experience of going into the caves with a high quality kayak is way more fantastic. You have the time to enjoy the beautiful landscape and to get into these 380 millions years caves.

Wait wait! Don't leave the town! You haven't discover yet the amazing region. Go on a trip to the glacier for the day or 8 days if you have time and climb there. The experience of climbing is very nice and the glacier is beautiful. You'll walk on it, climb it, see the transparent blue lagoons, hear the cracking sound and get into caves.
Don't miss this unique experience.

It's a bit expensive, but worth every penny spent, you'll leave the town full of souvenirs!

A well designed, thought out hostel. Relaxed, laid back atmosphere with friendly staff! Beds you just don't want to get out of in the morning! Home made breads, jams and yogurts!
Mate and coffee! What more can I say! Love the place can't wait to go back!

Puerto Tranquilo is a small town but we had to ask for directions. Hidden away from the main road is a wooden hostal with spacious rooms. Staff spoke little English. In our room we missed a cupboard for our clothes. Decoration is elementary but it fits in this "natural" hostal. It is an nice place to stay but the dinner was a little disappointing because there was a fixed menu and it was not cheap. We were put at the same table with another couple, luckily they were very nice to talk to.

This is a charming little hotel, probably the prettiest and most comfortable in Puerto Rio Tranquilo. Made of wood in a charming style, the place is well isolated and quiet, with warm water in the rooms (not all of them, apparently, so you'd better check this out when you contact them).

The staff is friendly and helpful, and they have this great system of giving each host a pair of warm wool-made sleepers during their stay, so that one can leave his/her dirty wet shoes in the entrance.

Breakfast is good, and in Summer you can have fresh fruits from the garden. They can also offer supper, but it does not come cheap -although the dining options in town are quite limited, so it can be a good option anyway.

The only negative point is that the rooms only have white, thin curtains. And in Summer time, there is light at 5am already. We woke up at 5am every day because of that.

El Puesto also offers great excursions and are a reliable tour company.

Altough Puerto Tranquillo is a small village, it took us a while to find the hostel = located a bit out of view of the street. The furniture and interior decoration is really well done. We found the service, although friendly, less personal than in other places we stayed.

This place is really lovely. The whole building is made of wood and you feel like home. There is a oven, sofas and big pillows in the common areas. A big table, where all sit together for breakfast. There is a separate room for dinner too, with separate tables.

The whole room was from wood and so cozy. The bed is quite comfy and a good sleep is guaranteed. The walls are a bit thin, so you might here people in the next room.

Breakfast is good. They have bread, jam, butter, cereals, fruits, self made yoghurt. We had twice dinner and were surprised about the good quality. It is a bit expensive, but this area of Chile is far away from everything. A 3 course dinner is served and was really delicious and the portions are a good size.

They help you to organize tours to the Marvel Caves and also Glacier Tours. Just ask at the receptions desk.

We traveled there as part of a multi-day guided tour with my in-laws (BTW- Ruth's Salvaje Corazon tour service is incredible- request Andres as your bilingual guide, especially if you like to fly fish). This place has it all. Clean, comfortable rooms set along the gorgeous Rio Tranquilo near the marble cave/cathedral (a must-see). Warm water and organic soap (nice touch). Very much like a home away from home. The location and surrounding area is spectacular. The staff is very attentive with delicious pisco sours served as you peruse some fantastic photo books in the living room. The tiny "restaurant" is good. I am still dreaming about the locally-sourced leafy green salad and homemade yoghurt. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. NOTE: There is a restaurant in front of it by the gas station that is a good lunch stop.
