I got an impression that this would be a country house hotel with well furnished contemporary rooms with wifi and parking which is important for a business traveller. So quaint but modern? not so. The georgian house may be part of the function rooms but its not the hotel, I didn't step into it. The hotel is the single storey sprawl behind the house. My room number (174) gives an idea of the size. There were 2 routes to my room, the shortest was to go outside and walk or drive around. I took the inside route and it must have taken me 5 mins to walk to it from reception. To get there I passed the lively disco which provided a number of people for the late night corridor racing.

The wifi was free for the first hour then £5 per hour after which for a business user is no good.

Yes the grounds look lovely.

The rooms are very similar to a premier inn in standard and about the same size.

For £85 I was expecting more. Clean yes, functional yes but not what I had imagined.

Dear Kazza2609,

Thank you for your recent review. I am sorry that you found your room to bea long way from reception. We do however try to put guests away from the main functions rooms where there is less noise. The free wi-fi is for one hour, which is competitive to other local hotels who charge for this service.
Kind Regards
Glynn Jones

This is a tricky one to review as we had a few issues with the hotel which I would normally be giving a negative for, however, the issues were dealt with very well by the staff and manager and for the price of £125 dinner bread and breakfast for 2 people is very reasonable. The restaurant was very good, I had the chefs special lamb tagine and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel has 150 rooms and was full when we stayed and this put a bit of a strain on the staff as there were 2 weddings. It is a beautiful setting and the facilities are good the rooms are adequate but nothing special the standard of service makes up for the average rooms.

Room Tip: The rooms near the main block are noisy particularly in the summer with windows and doors open as th...

Dear Ady H,
Thank you for your recent review. We are a modern hotel with our front of house areas being refurbished in the last couple of years, but we still have alot of history to our site and the 26 acres of grounds we are set in. We are busy with weddings and conferences but feel we are an ideal location for leisure guests aswell, given our proximity to the Peak District and our leisure facilities.
Kind Regards

Fabulous setting, no road noise, only noise outside in corridor from inconsiderate other guests, a few wedding receptions going on. Very nice room, great bathroom, lighting was excellent. Not much selection of channels on tv, not sure if we were doing something wrong! Adequate Buffett breakfast, any staff we came into contact with were helpful and friendly. Overall good value for money, would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from wedding reception disco, music can be heard in room 110

This is our second visit, and it was a good as the first visit. The spa/pool facilities good, water a tad cold, towels provided, do not forget your £1 for the lockers. Ate in the restaurant Moroccan Terrine, Lamb couscous, flat bread and yoghurt dip. My husband ate pie, chips and veg, was very nice. Our room was good around the back away from all the hustle and bustle of wedding guests and noise. The breakfast was good, full English, fresh fruit, yoghurt, and cereals. Pot of tea or coffee and toast. This Groupon deal is brilliant £129 for two-nights, first night evening meal included, and £20 (for 2) drink vouchers. We found the room a little chilly called reception and they kindly gave us a electric heater. The grounds are immaculate and the staff very polite and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. DH Lawrence Museum and the Peacock tea room a must visit, and not forgetting the traditional sweetie shop on the high street, brings back childhood memories. All in all a lovely weekend trip.

Room Tip: Definitely around the back and through the arch way, ample parking nice and quite.

Dear 557April01,

Thank you for your recent review. I am dissapointed that you did not feel we were child friendly. On weekends we do have splash times for children. We do not have a child play area , I will look into what we can do for children with summer holidays coming up in terms of activities or games.

From the moment we arrived to be greeted by a smiling receptionist until the time we left (another smiling receptionist!) the service at Eastwood Hall was absolutely first rate.
The bedroom was comfortable, spotlessly clean, warm, and , despite there being a lot of people in the hotel, quiet. Tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, room safe were all there. Extremely good bathroom too.
We were on an inclusive package, but everything on the a la carte menu was available, with only one item having a surcharge. The dinner was excellent - wide choice, well cooked, well presented and generous portions. Breakfast was similarly good; what was most impressive was the availability of gluten free cereals and bread, and soya milk and yoghurt, as well as all the usual breakfast foods.

What impressed the most, however, was the young waiters and waitresses. There was a conference of retired overseas doctors; their behaviour and rudeness in the dining room was breathtaking; our young waitress Kirstee dealt with the situation calmly and with impeccable politeness. At breakfast the following morning she and her fellow waitresses were still friendly and smiling.
There are a couple of really nice bar/lounge areas to have a drink and relax.
Management and staff training here are obviously of the highest order. Well done - we will certainly be recommending Eastwood Hall to our friends, and we will be returning.
