During my recent trip to Tokyo, a friend recommended we visit Gonpachi restaurant for its delicious variety of Japanese entrees. It can truly say it did NOT disappoint in the least. The ambience, the staff, the food were all exceptional. From the moment you walk in you can feel the energy and vibe this place generates on a nightly basis. I say nightly because I went more than once to see if I would have the same experience twice. I can honestly say I want to go back. Aside from the great food (I highly recommend the fried calamari, the Dragon Roll and the Wagyu Roll) what gives life to this place is the young, vibrant, energetic, professional and friendly Chief Corporate Maitre'd, Kenji "Dario" Sato, who treated us like royalty. He was attentive to our needs, made some great recommendations on appetizers, made sure our orders arrived in a timely manner and made us feel at home. The staff shouts out the welcoming call when customers arrive and shout out good-bye when customers leave. It sort of reminded me of the 80's sitcom "Cheers", where everyone screamed "Norm!" when he walked in the place. This is how you will feel walking in. The restaurant was also the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" movie setting. Anyway, definitely one of the top ten places to visit while in Tokyo. You'll also enjoy the array of photos of Hollywood elites that adorn the entrance.
