Description: Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu, on the corner of Nishi-Azabu Crossing, is located just 10 minutes from Tokyo Metro Roppongi, Nogizaka, and Hiroo stations are open until 3 am. Known for being the location of former-US President Bush and former-Prime Minister Koizumi’s Izakaya Summit, and even more famously known for its scene in Quentin Tarantino’s 2004 film Kill Bill, Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu’s nostalgic atmosphere brings you back to a Japan of a bygone era. To this day, Gonpachi’s fresh soba noodles, grilled skewers, tempura, and more are popular amongst both Japanese and foreign customers alike. We use carefully selected, regionally-sourced ingredients in everything from the fresh buckwheat that our chefs grind into a flour and use to make our famous homemade soba noodles to our tempura fried to crispy perfection. Whether for lunch or dinner, a date or any special occasion, if you live in Tokyo or are just passing through, we offer an unparalleled Japanese dining experience.

This place is a bit touristy, but if you're a Kill Bill fan, fun place to visit and see the place that inspired the Crazy 88 fight scene in the movie. And the food is actually really good. Staff was super friendly with top notch service, but make a reservation or take a chance and eat the bar.

This was the worse food experience we had in Japan (not just Tokyo). Besides the edo-style space, nothing else works. The “recommended” sake is diluted, the fish from the “special” menu was unsavory, the rice bowl was a disaster. The tuna avocado was the only thing edible. Expect loud tasteless music, staff is very much opinionated and not in a friendly way “you should eat it with a spoon, not chopsticks!”
Overall, a bad experience, the place is really lacking refinement; more like an American joint than a Japanese izakaya.

During my recent trip to Tokyo, a friend recommended we visit Gonpachi restaurant for its delicious variety of Japanese entrees. It can truly say it did NOT disappoint in the least. The ambience, the staff, the food were all exceptional. From the moment you walk in you can feel the energy and vibe this place generates on a nightly basis. I say nightly because I went more than once to see if I would have the same experience twice. I can honestly say I want to go back. Aside from the great food (I highly recommend the fried calamari, the Dragon Roll and the Wagyu Roll) what gives life to this place is the young, vibrant, energetic, professional and friendly Chief Corporate Maitre'd, Kenji "Dario" Sato, who treated us like royalty. He was attentive to our needs, made some great recommendations on appetizers, made sure our orders arrived in a timely manner and made us feel at home. The staff shouts out the welcoming call when customers arrive and shout out good-bye when customers leave. It sort of reminded me of the 80's sitcom "Cheers", where everyone screamed "Norm!" when he walked in the place. This is how you will feel walking in. The restaurant was also the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" movie setting. Anyway, definitely one of the top ten places to visit while in Tokyo. You'll also enjoy the array of photos of Hollywood elites that adorn the entrance.

The business team wanted to go to the "Kill Bill" restaurant so we made reservations. I was surprised how comfortable and relaxed the restaurant was. Service was great and we were seated almost immediately. We decided to order a course meal rather than individual plates. There are 3 options, one about $120/person, one about $100/person and one about $80/person. We decided on the middle options. Courses came every 10 minutes for so, each a small portion, some great and some OK. At about 8:00, a performance started that was great but loud. Overall, a great restaurant.
