We stayed here for 1 night on our way back to Reykjavik after 2 nights in the countryside. Rooms are freshly decorated, large and come with everything you would want for somewhere to stay. There's not much more to the hotel, breakfasts weren't great but adequate, bedding needs replacing. Adequate.

Stayed: January 2014, travelled as a couple

Hotel very nice and clean and staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The location is convenient so long as you have your own transport. We hired a car and were able to park right outside our door.
Breakfast was typically Scandinavian – porridge or cereal, boiled egg and sliced cold meats and cheese with bread or biscuits. No evening meal as such although Icelandic lamb soup was really tasty.
Took a tour to see the Northern Lights but unfortunately, they didn’t put on a very good show and the tour company will allow you to keep trying (over the next two years) until you get to see them. Wow – excellent deal there! Just keep hold of your tickets for when you re-book
There is so much to see and do; when we come back it will have to be for a week minimum. 3 days was not enough

Room Tip: We asked for a mountain view room.

Hi Nick S, thank you for your review on your stay at Hotel Laxnes in January with your partner. Despite you not being successful with the auroras, on the flip side you get to return to Iceland again for a re-do and see more of this beautiful country. We look forward to your return. We (two couples) stayed at the Hotel Laxnes for 4 nights this January 2014. We chose this hotel because it is situated just outside of Reykjavik and were very pleased we did, we had very good transport into town and all of the tour buses pick up from the hotel so it is an ideal base. Our rooms were great, having superb views of the mountains and therefore superb views of the Northern Lights (which we would not have had in town), we saw the lights on our third night there. We had a suite, with a balcony, which was very spacious, clean and all we needed for ourselves and our friends when they came in. Their room was smaller but nevertheless up to the same standard and had a quirky pull down balcony. We had our towels changed mid week which was good. Both Shaun and Nunu were very helpful, with queries on trips (Shaun would advise on the best way to travel and would ring and check times etc for us) and things in our room (a bulb was out when we arrived and this was sorted by the time we went back into it.) There is no restaurant, we knew that before we went, but there was a night when a special (lamb stew) was available, which was okay. Buffet breakfast was fine; porridge and toast for hot food and yoghurt, fruit, cereals, eggs, cheese and hams for cold. We hope to visit Iceland again and would definitely stay at Hotel Laxnes again.

Room Tip: Get a room on the first floor with views of the mountains. A suite is excellent!

It is a nice and cosy hotel at an excellent location. The hotel is surrounded by snow clad mountains .
They serve reasonably good breakfast in the morning , but there is no restaurant in the hotel and you have to go out for dinner .There are a few eating joints like KFC, Domino's and subway at a walking distance , so it makes a convenient place to saty if you have kids with you.we were there for 3 days and enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is about 10-15 minutes drive from Reykjavik. It is in a small town surrounded by eateries (KFC, Domino's Pizza, Subway and a lovely bakery) and a few restaurants and a sports' bar.
We were not given the room we had booked and unfortunately as it was just before new Year, it appeared that the bar staf were manning the reception. The barman did not know what to do but did leave our details for when a 'real' receptionist was in. We had to saty for 2 nights in this room but it was eventually changed on the third day. We were given a free lunch and a drink as compensation.
The studio rooms are a good size and have a fridge which is very handy for keeping drinks cool. They have views onto the mountains at the back, and unlike an earlier guest who wrote that it is impossible to see the Northern Lights, we did see them on our last night! I imagine it must have been cloudy or there was no solar activity when they were there!
We particularly enjoyed the porridge at breakfast.
Our stay was pleasant, staff were polite and friendly (Tomas in particular) and I would recommend the hotel to others. Just don't expect 4 stars. Life is a lot easier (and cheaper) if you hire a car.

Room Tip: Studio rooms have good views, limited cooking facilites and a fridge.

We do apologise for not having the studio with a bath tub as all of our rooms with bath tub were occupied during this busy festive season so e gave you a room with shower We did try and correct this by giving you a complimentary drink and lunch and apologised for this bu obviously it was not enough and most hotel rooms in Reykjavik come with shower only .Yes do not expect 4 stars as we are only a 3 star Hotel .I would have wished for a better review and its always disappointing to receive a 3 star review .

Me and my boyfriend stayed mid-dec. Before going they were very helpful in booking actives and learning about the area. Only over the road was a supermarket and ATM's.

We arrived late on a Friday and wanted something to eat. We was advised a local restaurant which was about 10-15mins away. The service and food was great and if you show them your key you get 10% of the bill.

We were very lucky to see the northern lights. The location of the hotel helped seeing the lights too.

We hope to visit Iceland again and would happily stay there again.

Greetings travellers!

I stayed at hotel laxnes during my first ever trip to Iceland, and I must say I was far from disappointed.

Helpful, friendly staff
Bus links to Reykjavik
AURORA BOREALIS VIEWS
mountain views
Clean, fresh environment
Breakfast room/Minibar

That plus more, I could not have planned a better vacation if I had tried. Any problems encountered or queries, Shaun the manager did not waste time in assisting, very helpful and knowledgeable.

I highly, highly recommend hotel laxnes and it's warm welcome and comfort, and I will be booking again for further excursions.

Ps you won't be cold, the radiators are awesome.
