The Laxnes Hotel is a 20 min bus ride from the centre of Reykjavik, the bus stop being right outside the hotel. We picked the hotel as it was quite small (26 rooms) and being out of town gave the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. We were not disappointed, seeing them for two nights running. There is a sports bar five minutes away that does good food and a couple of super markets the same for anything else. The buses run until after 11pm, so evening meals in Reykjavik are also possible. The tour operators pick up at the hotel, so no worries about missing any trips. The best thing though were the staff, they could not have been more helpful. They even knocked on people's doors to tell them when it was possible to see the 'lights', so no-one missed out. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All the rooms are around a court yard, so nothing to choose between them. A couple have balconies wh...

Brilliant hotel. Everything needed for us. Arrangements for trips superb. Our room was lovely and warm and had a wonderful view of the mountains. The northern lights were a bonus. Definitely a good place to stay and well placed for local restaurants. Julia and terry holder Feb 14

4 night stay in a party of 24 people. The hotel was perfect for us! The Manager, Shaun, and his Assistant Nunu couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The location is great for travel into Reykjavik or out into the wider region and was easy to get to. Wonderful lamb soup was much appreciated on arrival. I really, really recommend a stay here. Thank you Shaun and Nunu.

Shaun, the hotel manager, and the rest of his staff could not do enough for us. The hotel was situated north of the city in a pretty location overlooking the mountains. Easy bus links into the city..... about 30 minutes by bus and they ran every 30 mins. Local restaurants and supermarkets within a 5 minute walk..... and even a wool shop selling a range of handmade products and yarn. They provided an evening meal on the first night and there was a bar with a large screen TV and a pool table. There is also a small children's park close by .... 5 mins. Rooms clean and warm. Continental breakfast and plenty of it. Would certainly recommend it.

We had a fantastic time at hotel Laxnes, ideal location for the northern lights and we were always first drop off at the end of the tours. Staff very friendly and very helpful.
A must on iceland is to visit the blue lagoon, it's simply out of this world.

To sum up - fantastic hotel and great staff, couldn't ask for more for the price.

Staff were absolutely fantastic, they recommended local places, remembered who you were and what you were up to that day and helped organise great days out with genuine interest. They truly made our stay in this hotel something to talk about.

The rooms are simple but comfortable and always warm. Good hot water in the showers at all times and lovely cleaning service. Most of all the view from the window (in out case room 17) is a gorgeous mountain view.

Out the back there's a hot tub, we had a few issues getting it to the right temperature at first since it's not done on thermostat but the staff were constant happy to help and come check if we wee comfortable. We even had the good fortune to see the northern lights out over the mountains from the tub. Breathtaking!

The breakfast was simple but good, a continental including meats, toast, porridge and other basics. Very filling and a good time frame in which to have some (7.15-10) so no issues there.

The surrounding area has good views but not a great deal going on. If you have an interest in wool there is a local store the staff are more than happy to direct you to. Round the corner beside a supermarket there is a sports bar/restaurant that do some great food with decent portion sizes. On top for me would be the local bakery, we were told about it by the staff of Laxnes and it's truly delicious! Great selection on cakes and pastries and lovely chocolate sets if you want to take something home.

I would happily stay at this hotel with my partner should we ever return to Iceland again!

Room Tip: We were in room 17, kitchenette if you plan to cook for yourself and great view.

We stayed for three nights at the end of January and were very impressed. The hotel has a nice cosy quirkiness and our room was pleasant with long windows, one of which pushed out into a small balcony, and there was a lovely view over the mountains. The breakfast was good and the staff, and owner, were very friendly and helpful. Although outside Reykjavik you can be picked up for all your trips and there is a bus stop just outside the hotel if you want to go into the city. We found an open air swimming pool just around the corner which is part of a sports complex, and we would highly recommend a swim there, again the staff were extremely pleasant. In fact everyone we met in Iceland was charming and we will certainly return if we can.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor with a lovely view.
