“Welcoming and friendly, great food.”
Reviewed 19 January 2014 via mobile

The Unicorn is a lovely historic building in the market square of the beautiful old town of Deddington. The bedrooms have names, not numbers, which made us feel at home right from the beginning. Our room was Phoenix, which overlooked the market square and was plenty big enough for the three of us overnight. We were out late at a party and had a key to let ourselves in, but even at 3am a warm welcome awaited us; it was like coming home. Our room was a little cold as the radiator seemed to only work at the bottom, but the beds were comfy and despite hearing the church bells chiming the hour once or twice we slept well. We missed breakfast in the morning but again the lovely staff came to our rescue, finding coffee, tea and croissants to keep us going until lunch. We had booked a table for lunch the previous evening, as we had seen the dishes being prepared in the restaurant the night before and they looked and smelled fantastic. We were very glad we had because lunch was superb, and made more enjoyable by the friendly, cheerful service. I really can't emphasize enough how well looked after we were; nothing was too much trouble; we never felt we were interrupting anyone or being a nuisance. I would love to go back again and have dinner there and would happily recommend it to my friends and family.

We were recently told that this establishment was under new management and the food and the new ambience of this pub/restaurant wound be worth trying. We subsequently went for Sunday lunch and, on the back of that experience, booked for Christmas day, a first as we had always eaten at home before. On both occasions what a very pleasant surprise, what a superb experience. On both occasions the welcome was warm and friendly, the feel of the place was stylish, unpretentious and welcoming. The relaxed but professional and efficient staff clearly made the mixed clientele feel at home and to top it all, the food was superb. Both Sunday lunch and the Christmas feast were beautifully cooked. A delightful roast beef on one occasion, moist and succulent turkey on the other were complimented with an excellent range of vegetables themselves extremely well cooked and presented. The home made canapes, petit fours and desserts were excellent and plentiful. A real triumph on both occasions, congratulations and good luck for the future. It will soon be hard to get a table here because, yes, it really is that good.

I was recommended to go here by a friend who lives in the village, they have just completed a lovely refurbishment and have new management and I have to say it was fantastic. The food was very well cooked, seasoned to perfection and very well presented. The portions were perfect and the prices were very reasonable for the level of quality and finesse.

The wine list was not extensive but well priced and very well structured - some cracking Marlborough Pinot Noir for £28

Definitely worth a visit and if your a frequent visitor to Silverstone it's the perfect place to stay. They have 6 newly refurbished rooms at very reasonable prices.

We will go back for sure

This lovely market place pub in the beautiful village of Deddington has recently been completely refurbished and to be honest it was about time. Everything internally is now fresh and modern and the new menu is varied and imaginative, offering a really good alternative to what is currently available in the village. The food was excellent and the atmosphere in the bar great fun. Highly recommended.

Very friendly pub, and the price was very reasonable. Could do with updating, also be alot better when a chef is appointed. The breakfast was continental and there are no meals served in the evening, which is a shame because the menu looked good and the restaurant was of a good standard. All in all a peasant stay.

Hard to find as my booking source showed it as Banbury when in fact it was in Dennington, a small village about 20 min from Oxford.
I have nothing else to comment on. The village is very small. The plumbing was sketchy. The place is very old and not updated. The price was reasonable and included a continental breakfast.

I am astonished that anyone could give this lovely old little hotel anything less than 5 out of 5 ! We had a fantsatic rate on Expedia about £35 ( thats the total not each) for the two of us to stay B & B in a lovely room with an old feature fireplace and room looking out over the front of the hotel. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room, thr room was spotless with clean towels bedding and cups! Service was fab both in the evening for a drink and at breakfast. Centrally located for Bicester or Banbury, the village itself has old churches and other old pubs and restaurants . We have already booked again to stay there next month. Do yourself and yur bank balance a favour and book it, its cheaper than Travellodge and two million times better value!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front
