We really enjoyed staying here and I have already recommended this to friends and family as a place to eat, to stay or just spend an evening in the good company of strangers at the bar.
The staff were friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable.
The food was really good and the staff were as attentive as they could be without being 'too much'.
We joined the locals in the bar and had a great time too.
Would really recommend this place.

Family get together an overall great success. We booked all the rooms for 3 nights and had a wonderful dinner for 20 one night. The rooms were good and well furnished - one or two needed a bit of TLC but the majority were very comfortable.
The dinner was a huge success and was excellent all round - and not being ripped off for wine was a real bonus bearing in mind the number drunk! Food was great and would thoroughly recommend the restaurant to anyone.
Breakfast was a bit of a miss - staff not in the hotel until 9am one morning and it was a Continental affair. Lovely garden - good bar with several draught beers.
The Unicorn has a lovely position in the market square and it was quiet enough at night to leave the windows wide open.
Really recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Book the rooms on the top floor to avoid noise from the ground floor bar!

It has been a long time since I have stayed in a place better than this, greeted on arrival by a friendly team, shown to room and allowed to enjoy. The room was a spacious room for 3 (one double and a single). I slept very well in a very comfortable bed, and enjoyed the very soft towels following a refreshing shower.

But none of this was a patch on the breakfast where we were served fresh made pastries and good coffee, and as much as we liked. When the owner says, 'do you mind waiting a few minutes as the chef has just put the fresh pastires in the oven'. You know it is a great place. I am also very fussy about good coffee, and it was great.

With the exception of a comfortable bed, nothing else about my stay here was good, breakfast was 'continental' in the sense that it wasn't cooked. The pastries on the final day of my stay looked like they had been left out all night. No one cleaned the room each day and there were only enough toiletries for one night. On the first day I almost had to skip the breakfast entirely due to arriving down stairs to find no one around and no sign of anywhere to eat breakfast at all.

This is one of the best pub restaurants I have ever enjoyed. The atmosphere was great with lots of people just enjoying a drink and good company.
Food was superb with an imaginative menu and creative chef. Being very busy it got a bit noisy, but this only added to the evening. My lamb was so good, precede by lovely scallops and finished with a crumble to die for. The staff made sure we were happy but not dominating.
If you are lucky enough to be near this pub try it and be sure to book. Enjoy...

We visited the Unicorn for Sunday lunch today and whilst some of our party enjoyed the wonderful rare roast beef, I opted for the totally scrumptious slow roasted pork. All the roasts were accompanied by the largest yorkshires I have seen in a long time. The pub has recently been refurbished and was buzzing well into the afternoon. ( If you plan to visit the Unicorn, allow time to visit a treasure trove of an antique shop on the other side of the market square. ) The service, the atmosphere and the food make the Unicorn a great new addition to the restaurant scene.

The Unicorn is a lovely historic building in the market square of the beautiful old town of Deddington. The bedrooms have names, not numbers, which made us feel at home right from the beginning. Our room was Phoenix, which overlooked the market square and was plenty big enough for the three of us overnight. We were out late at a party and had a key to let ourselves in, but even at 3am a warm welcome awaited us; it was like coming home. Our room was a little cold as the radiator seemed to only work at the bottom, but the beds were comfy and despite hearing the church bells chiming the hour once or twice we slept well. We missed breakfast in the morning but again the lovely staff came to our rescue, finding coffee, tea and croissants to keep us going until lunch. We had booked a table for lunch the previous evening, as we had seen the dishes being prepared in the restaurant the night before and they looked and smelled fantastic. We were very glad we had because lunch was superb, and made more enjoyable by the friendly, cheerful service. I really can't emphasize enough how well looked after we were; nothing was too much trouble; we never felt we were interrupting anyone or being a nuisance. I would love to go back again and have dinner there and would happily recommend it to my friends and family.
