“Excellent food in delightful setting”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

Four of us stopped here for lunch. The tables outside in the garden are delightful and the service very friendly and competent. One of us wanted a vegetarian meal and although there was very little suitable on the printed menu they proposed and provided alternatives which were excellent without any fuss.

We have just stayed 4 nights at the "Clau del Loup" and it was one of the best places we
have ever stayed. Both the building itself and the large surrounding gardens with swimming
pool and terrace were an absolute delight.
Inside there is a lovely gastronomique restaurant and throughout the Hostellerie there are
top quality fixtures and fittings. Our bedroom had a small terrace outside and an excellent
bathroom.
The food was fine dining at its best and the breakfast was very good.
All the staff were very friendly, attentive and efficient and Farid the "Maitre d'hotel" looked
after us very well indeed.
There are not enough superlatives to describe this place and we very much hope to return
if we are staying in this area again.

My wife and I were guided to the Hostellerie Clau del Loup by friends who have been spending a sabbatical year nearby. We had a delightful lunch there, for a very reasonable cost, which included an unlimited supply of a very pleasant rose. Although one does not find it listed among TripAdvisor's rated restaurants it truly deserves to be there. It was by far the best lunch that we had during our ten days in France.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay here, we have stayed here before in May this year. It is a perfect place for a few days , it takes us about 1 hour 20mins to drive here from Bergerac Airport with hardly any traffic on the roads. I would endorse everything the previous reviewer had to say about the hotel. We eat in the restaurant every night as the food is excellent and they have a very good wine list. We always get a very friendly welcome, as we did on our first visit. It is only a very small hotel and gets busy at lunchtimes as it has a good reputation for its food. The only thing I can think of that they don't have is a lounge area where you could sit and read if the weather was bad ( we have always had great weather). Our room had an excellent large terrace , which is lovely to sit out on in the sun. There is also the garden and pool area for relaxing. We will always stay here for a few days on our French trips.

We stumbled across this superb little hotel completely by accident (almost literally too) after a faurly disasterous night in another local hotel.

At a guess formerly the local landowners house, the hotel which is access via a stone staircase is small, very special and in my experience quite unique!

On arrival the welcome was incredibly warm - with us instantly being invited to view the room. Check in took just a couple of minutes and we were made to feel special. Now for such a small hotel (4 rooms we think) then you might expect that but nothing was too much trouble.

Things to point out... the bedrooms are apparently all unique whilst the bathroom in our room was superb. The shower (there was only a shower) was probably the best we'd experienced at ANY hotel, plenty of hot water any time of the day and great pressure. Did have a bit of a fight with the wardrobe but once you figured it out wasn't a problem!
Of note: NO TV in the bedroom - the owner told me they want guests to be totally relaxed. No WiFi either so if these are pre-requisites don't stay here!

As we arrived 'out of season' the hotel was actually closed on one day that we stayed. No problem, here's the front door key - and breakfast at 9am if that's ok...

The restaurant certainly lives up to it's local reputation (so we found out later). Gastronomic and fantastically over staffed while we were there! No doubt they have massive trade during lunch but it was a little strange being the only guests for dinner. On the other hand service was outstanding - only bettered by the food and the wine list. Many local choices on the menu (we ONLY ate the Menu duy Terrior, consisting of Foie Gras, Duck or Wild Boar, local cheese and a superb chocolate dessert, despite eating there twice). Menu was around €40 pp.

Certainly not the cheapest place locally (around €100 per night plus breakfast) however well worth every cent! My wife now wants to stay there whenever we visit the area - which is often!
