So many places are tarted up, given re-fits, ensuites to every room, fresh paint every year, with the mis-guided concept that this is what the guest wants, and so will pay for it. Duvale is a timewarp, of eccentric shared bathroom facilities, doors which don't open/close, pealing paint, temparamental ovens, and 80s decor, and this means we arrive and can instantly relax, knowing we won't get moaned at for the muddy boots in the hall, the sofa cushions in disarray, the odd spilt drink or broken glass, and the children have free rein of the whole premises, and go Amazon for the whole week.
We are a large group with limited financial means and Duvale is perfect for us, or any group who are not concerned about the fripperies of life but want a solid, friendly venue with a large kitchen, wood burning stoves, and stacks of atmosphere.
A group of 21 adults and three small children spent a long weekend here in mid January as part of a wedding celebration. The place was comfortable, well equipped and extremely good value.
We had the largest of the four rentals on the property and had more than enough space with two kitchens (one designated for the kids), two lounges, a massive dining area, 12 bedrooms and a pool table.
The owners were on hand if we needed anything, responding quickly and helpfully. Recommend texting / iMessage as the best method of communication, using the free wifi, as there is minimal mobile reception being in the middle of nowhere.
We also organised local caterers for dinner on the Saturday night and all of us without a doubt would recommend Mandy Harding. The food was DELICIOUS and there was plenty of it - again, it was very, very good value.
If you're looking for a place that can accommodate a lot of people and doesn't cost the earth, then this is the place for you.

I booked the Priory for New Years Eve 2013 and had a wonderful time. There were 22 of us in total. We just about managed to fit in the dining room to eat together but around the rest of the house there was plenty of space. The lounge area has a lovely log burner and proved to be a perfect room to chill out and nurse New Years day hangovers. There is a Pool table in one room which was an added bonus. Many of the rooms are en suite. The garden is a nice space which we'd love to come back and enjoy in the summer. Highly recommended
Approx 18 adults stayed at this cottage for a surprise 30th birthday and we had a fantastic time. The cottage is large and we could all easily fit, socialise, cook and eat together without space being a problem at all. The cooking and dinning facitlties are brilliant and the main longe is large and full of seats. The large log fire was excellent and keeping us all warm. The views at the rear of the cottagte in the garden were fantastic and the gardenwas also really safe for the dogs.
Overall we had a fantasic weekend away
