“Do not book a room!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2009

Our party consisted of three couples and all agreed that the pub and restaurant was great and provided us with excellent food and service. We had seafood platters and oysters for lunch and either steak or lamb for dinner - all were excellent. The menu was quite varied and the wine list was good. On the other hand the rooms were dire - I think all the publicity photos must have been taken at least ten years ago. Our room was dirty and tacky. There was thick dust everywhere, even on the dressing table where our 'breakfast' had been left. The worst thing ever was that when my partner got out of the jacuzzi and let the water out - there was slimy black hairs hanging out of the water jets - he immediately got back into the shower. The only decent thing in the room was the TV.

Described as "a restaurant with rooms" as if the rooms are an afterthought, which is perhaps generous in the circumstances. On the positive side the location is very pleasant and the restaurant is very good, if a little pricey. The restaurant service was reasonable. The "hotel" service was non-existent.

We were staying overnight so the priority was the accommodation. Oh dear....... At first sight the rooms look like they might be good as they are situated within barn style blocks adjacent to the pub/restaurant. However, they are tiny, stuffy and dirty. What is the point of squeezing a 4 poster bed into a pokey little room which would appropriately accommodate a single bed? The furniture and decor was tacky and pretentious. The room our children stayed in didn't even have hot water. The rooms are crammed next to each other with precious little in the way of soundproofing.

"Breakfast" was a couple of boxes of cereal and half a pint of milk in the room fridge as the proprietors obviously think it's too much trouble to reopen the restaurant to serve a proper breakfast on Sunday.

We arrived on the Saturday evening, ate a pleasant dinner in the restaurant and were then made to pay immediately for both food and accommodation: £425 for 2 adults and 2 children. We felt like we'd been robbed. the rooms were charged at £160 each!! I wouldn't have paid £40 for them.

Never, ever stay there!
