This hotel is a bit nice, hard to fault it as it is clean and warm and the rooms are generous. What lets it down is the very officious staff and their attitude, for example to after hours drinking. A very convoluted procedure had to be implemented to get two bottles of warm beer. Add to that getting a receipt was a trial. This is just an example of the officious and procedure oriented service. Also the place should be preserved as it is a fabulous example of fluff and flounce from the 80s.

We stayed in one of the Lakeside Lodges, the cheaper option as part of the Lakeside International Hotel complex. We chose it because we knew the parking was good and that it was the cheapest option locally. It was much better than we expected - cheap accommodation, sure, but for the money it was a lovely clean room, with a decent en-suite, a good size, quiet and with a view across the lake. If you just need a bed for the night, then this is great. Don't expect wi-fi or an in-house restaurant (although presumably the International has one), but we were impressed.

myself and my wife stayed here for a 2 night break for old times sake i worked for this hotel over ten years ago on arrival i noticed not a thing had changed not one thing so on arrival i was asked to pay for my room this was fine but being in the trade was very strange it cost us £77.50 per night the lad that checked us in was on the phone when we arrived it sounded like a personal call as he left us waiting for about 3 to 4 minutes watching him talk then he placed the phone on the side and checked us in then went back to his call so we went to the room all the things we needed were there tv large bed and a very small bathroom (which i might add was rather covered in dust ) breakfast was horrible as i asked the waitress for coffee and got water and all the breakfast was left under hotlamps and over cooked we decided to check out after one night as when we told the receptionist about our room he just shrugged his shoulders if i was in charge of this place i would really get on their case as they are the first thing people see i would love to come back and try again but fear it would be no different

Now read this carefully, if you want a Premier Inn or Travelodge.....DONT come here, however, if you want a hotel that gives a reasonable accomodation, good amenities ( pool etc) and food which is better than a lot of your top restaurants, then the Lakeside "could be" your place.
I have stayed here on several occations, the first time for four nights !! and on several single night stays since.
As many people comment, this IS a hotel which appears to be stuck in a timewarp, however, the hotel appears to be run as well as it can with the ongoing investment which it gets.
The rooms are tidy and clean, and appart from the air conditioning not working in any of the rooms which i have stayed, it has not been a major issue as a desk fan is provided. The plumbing equipment does require some attention, as it took me 10 mins to get a reasonable "steady temp" on the shower, however the bedding and towels are perfectly clean and smell clean. I have not used any of the leisure facilites, however coleagues have said they are perfectly adequate. The bar manager "Carlos" is a character, and a welcoming host, and the selection of drinks is adequate. The bar meals however are "tired" are poor selection, and a bit pricey for what they are. The Al a Carte menu again could benefit from a revamp, as its selection is quite expensive for what it is. Breakfast however is "great" freshly cooked and WARM, good selection of food to suit all requirements.
As i said in the start, this is a hotel with characters !!, from the rooms to the food and drink, however, the question is " would i recommend this to a friend, and would like them to remain friends ???" then the answer is YES, i would, and will continue to book this hotel if i am staying in a 20 mile radius of this place.

However Mr Potter, i am fully aware that investment requires people to stay, but its that catch 22 scenario, will people stay if they keep getting the poor reviews which you sometimes get ???, but please be assured, unless you poison me, i will still stay here.....as i said, " its an experience......and its great" !!!.

Room Tip: Specify a room that overlooks the lake, its worth the extra couple of quid
