We have just returned from a two night stay with four other couples from this Inn. We received a complementary cup of tea in the bar in front of a warm fire after being shown to our room.
The view from the room was idyllic with snow capped mountains, trees and a river. The room was large airy and clean with a tea, coffee and hot chocolate tray. The en-suite was also very clean the minor complaint here would be that the shower head kept slipping down the holder and it wasn't forceful enough for me. The bed was very comfortable and again all bedding exceptionally clean. We had breakfast and evening meal both were very good in fact the evening meals exceptional. It was very busy during our stay and this hotel has obviously already got a good reputation and probably doesn't need this review. An excellent place to stay particularly if you are a walker. A very warm friendly staff which contributed to an enjoyable relaxing friendly weekend

Room Tip: The rooms facing the river have the best view

Our weekend stay was a absolute delight. Staying at the Kirkstile was a perfect experience. Its situation is the highlight, absolute beauty together with surrounding area. The staff are all exceptionally hard-working, friendly and helpful. The room (5) we stayed in was, although small, warm, clean and comfortable and all we needed was provided. There is a TV room but who needs that when staying in such a beautiful area of England but enough to catch up with one or two things if you want. We found the food and beer an amazing experience A* on this one. The bar area was very traditional and the whole experience was exactly as you would expect from a 16th century pub with good well thought hospitality.

This is your only Pub/Hotel option if you are planning a visit to Lowswater, but its a good one if you like real ale and open fires. The decor and fittings are a bit tired in the bedrooms, but they are clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.
There is a small drying room for wet fell walking gear and the bar allows dogs before 6.00 and after 10.00 in the evenings.
The main criticism is that many residents are going to be frustrated by the lack of internet access, bearing in mind that for many there will be no signal on their phones. I think the management should sort this out - its good to get away from it all, but at least to have the option to contact the outside world without having to sit in the reception area.

This olde worlde charming hostelry sits in the heart of some breath taking Lake District mountains ! A gem of a place for the hardened walker with easy access to some challenging routes. A really welcoming atmosphere and a beautiful en suite bedroom with views to die for. Evening meal a sumptuous affair with a wide and varied menu. Bar drinks a little on the expensive side but the open fire and overall atmosphere and experience really good. Breakfast served hot and a good choice for those wanting something other than the hearty Cumbrian Traditional.

Stayed here for two nights. It is in the middle of nowhere so no traffic noise at night and no street lights to spoil your sleep. Plenty of good walks in the area and the inn is a good stopping place mid walk, so usually busy during the afternoon. Unfortunately the weather was not great while we stayed so could not sit outside and admire the fantastic views The food is very good be it lunch or evening meal of which we sampled both. The menu is quite varied so something for everyone. I had a superb lamb dish one night and fish the next, the portions being generous. Although not fond of light beers I tried a few and found Langdale was ok for me. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean with all mod cons and plenty of storage space. Breakfast was also very good with choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurts, juices and then the full hit of traditional Lakeland breakfast or parts of if you wanted. The staff were all pleasant and friendly so would certainly return to this inn again.

The good things - friendly staff, good menu choice, beautiful location and views, nice ambience in the dining room, open fire in the bar, walks from the door. Things that could be better - the drying room (which we needed) was tiny - no more than an airing cupboard with a few hangers above the vacuum cleaners and ironing board. Our twin room was tiny and in need of updating, the residents' lounge was a bit small and soulless and we had a couple of issues with food not being hot enough. There was, surprisingly, occasionally a whiff of drains in the area of the fire in the bar. Oh, and real coffee would be nice - they don't always have the machine on. Overall we found it a bit overpriced for what we got - you are obviously paying for the location.
