Stayed here for the first time recently. The staff were lovely and friendly. The room was one of the prettiest that I have stayed in with a four poster bed, traditional ceiling beams and beautiful matching bedspread and curtains. Looking out of the window we looked out onto the beer garden, a stream and a mountain.
Our only slight negative about our stay was that we were directly above the Kitchen so there was a smell of food coming in and we could hear the hustle and bustle in the kitchen yet the prettiness of the room and the view made up for that. We ate in the restaurant, fabulous food to a high standard and they sell ales made by their own brewery. It was a lovely chilled evening sat in their beer garden.
Lovely walks can be done from the Inn, we walked up the bridlepath then to Crummock water and through Lanthwaite wood on the way back, which is quite magical.
We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful, quiet location at foot of Mellbreak with great beer garden. Excellent food and drink, with selection of their own Cumbrian Legendary real ales and local guest beers. Very comfortable accommodation in beamed rooms with superb views. Great hiking from the front door.

What more could you want from a Lakeland pub? Excellent range of draught beer from their own brewery; extensive menu of first class food ( we had the chicken/ham/leek pudding twice in succession); friendly obliging service (they adapted the menu at our request without any problem); and one of the best views in the area, across to Mellbreak looming above. We ate in a number of places in the area, both Cockermouth and Braithwaite, but this was the best of them all.

Visted the Kirkstile on Sunday 6th July accompanied by my Neice and her husband who line locally and recommended the restaurant .

We were not disappointed and enjoyed a thoroughly good meal. My wife and I had a fillet steak and the others had belly pork and lamb shank we all enjoyed our meals.

We did not book but we would recommend making a reservation as the Inn was very busy even at 7pm and we got the last free table.

The bar stocks a wide range of drinks and wines but I must make mention of the great selection of local beer on tap.

I visited the hotel restaurant on 2nd July with my husband whilst we were on holiday in nearby Lamplugh. We hadn't booked a table and the pub and restaurant were extremely busy. However the staff were really helpful and friendly and we were able to get a table immediately. The service was great, the staff cheerful and efficient and the food was amazing (I had the flat cap mushrooms - definitely recommended!) The prices were really reasonable for what was a lovely evening out. We would definitely go there again next time we are in the Lake District.

Arrived at the Kirkstile after a day on the Steamers @ Ullswater. The drive up through the narrow lanes was breathtaking - both in terms of scenery and danger of oncoming vehicles.

The Inn is charming and a perfect setting in front of the mountains.
Food and drinks served are great value locally sourced.
Request a room inside the Inn.
Rooms inside the inn are rustic, warped and functional, while rooms in the out-buildings are a bit characterless.

We only stayed 1 night and did the 5mile Lowewater Lake walk.
Would definitely visit again and do more of the walks.

Room Tip: Room 2 Double is great, Room 3 Twin is a little noisy from the kitchen extractor fan (dinnertime) bu...

What a welcome site this pub is after walking round most of the lake. Very extensive building with areas for restaurant dining and perhaps afternoon tea style eating. We ate from the sandwich menu and were able to grab a table in the garden, which was ideal.

Food very good (on slates) nice chips too. Very helpful and nice young waiter. Wish we were staying closer to try evening meals. Dog friendly too.
