Wonderful Lakeland setting. Slightly surprised to find that "Staff parking Private" was closest to the pub and customers parking furthest away. We asked to open a "tab" but were refused because we were having our drink in the garden. We came inside to eat. The food was good but not wonderful. On the whole the food and drink was expensive for what we had.

Room Tip: N/A Dinner only

Dear Sue P

Thank you for taking the time to review the Kirkstile Inn following your recent visit,

It is very unusual for us to receive poor feedback on the value of the food and drink served - and I am so sorry that your visit to Kirkstile did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Please rest assured your comments will be taken seriously as it is always our intention to provide great value to our customers.

In relation to car parking - we do have some spaces for our team, who, because of our rural location need to travel to work by car, however the bulk of our car parking is for customers and is,in the main, closer to the pub and easier to navigate than our limited staff spaces.

I hope despite this experience we can welcome you back in the future and look forward to meeting you.

Kind regards

This place is a gem. Great atmosphere. Fantastic food - wholesome and tasty. Staff are welcoming and helpful. On a summer’s day, it is lovely to sit outside and take in the beautiful views; in the winter, inside is so cosy and warm. Dogs are welcome apart from between 6pm and 10pm. Haven’t used the accommodation but cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough. And don’t forget the Micro-brewery! Loweswater Gold is a must try.

We always visit the Kirkstile Inn when we're in the area to sample their excellent food and beer.
This was our first time to actually stay. We had a family room not in the main building, but really good to have a sofa and chairs to chill out in and a bit more space.
The Kirkstile is a truly traditional inn and the bar area hasn't changed much in all the years we've been visiting, and long may it stay the same.
If you're after gastro ultra modern you'll be disappointed, instead it is a wonderful space with great atmosphere - So to the Kirkstile Inn team: please don't ever change it!
As usual the food was brilliant with plenty of choice and very reasonably priced. Beer equally excellent.

Room Tip: The family room outside of the main inn was very quiet and spacious - definitely worth the extra.

Popped in on a sunny Saturday afternoon for a spot of lunch and we were not disappointed. We sat outdoors, get a table if one is free as they quickly fill up with passing hikers. The dog is welcome, water bowls are dotted about. We had some guest ales, pimms, pork burger and pop chicken wrap. All in all a lovely meal, very fresh and quality ingredients. We were going to grab a desert but we decided against it as the price was rather steep, £6.50 for crumble and custard is overpriced in my eyes. Other than that everything else was perfect.
We will be heading back!

Been coming here for years.
Had our first disappointing Sunday lunch at the weekend.
Beef was very fatty
One roast tattie
Veg wasn't prepared very well and swimming in water.
What is going on?
Have you changed Chef?

Dear Mim216,

I am so sorry that your Sunday Lunch did not meet your expectations on this occasion -as you all know this is not our usual standard of service. We have had no change to our kitchen team so please rest assured that your comments will be addressed and should you choose to visit us again I am sure you will find that our customary service is resumed.

I hope to see you on your next visit

Kind regards
Andrea Whigham
