“Great location, fab thatched roundhouses”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We've just returned from a 4 night stay at Hermanus. We stayed in a single roundhouse. The roundhouse looked out over the sand dunes to the sea and we were able to walk to the beach in a few minutes across the dunes. The beach was beautiful and sandy. Not sure about swimming for children but further down the coast at Hemsby there was a safe swimming area watched over by lifeguards.

As others have said the decor is dated but at £55 per night we thought it was still a bargain and certainly didn't detract from a lovely break. Some of the roundhouses have been updated and I was told that all of them will be gradually updated. The updated version looked fab.

The staff were extremely friendly and we ate from the bar menu and had the carvery on Sunday. Great quality food at very reasonable prices.

Almost forgot to say there is a heated outdoor pool which was spotlessly clean.

All in all a great break, in a lovely location and we will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: You can request a roundhouse with a sea view, I think this is just the single roundhouses though.

We spent a week at Hermanus 2 weeks ago. We stayed in a Lighthouse chalet, and took the dogs too. Winterton is really lovely, and the beach is fab, especially the cafe just up from the beach! The chalet we stayed in was basic but is was good for what we needed. It could have with salt and pepper in the chalet, because we went to Tesco but didn't think to get those!! I think the chalets are the best place to stay with dogs. If you're wanting someone to stay where the dogs are secure, then this isn't the place for you, but if you don't mind then this is a great place!

Me and my wife haven't been away in about 12 years and this year we decided its time to get away and relax! After searching for somewhere nice and quiet along the east coast we stumbled across the Hermanus. After doing some research and reading some excellent reviews we decided it was the right place for us, and boy we were right!! Excellent staff, beautiful location and spotless accommodation. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left, all 7 days and nights were peaceful and relaxing, and the price was definitely a bonus!! With a stunning seaview, in a perfect little roundhouse for two, what more could a couple want? We dined in the restaurant and enjoyed a delightful piping hot Sunday Carvery with a magnificent choice of veg! The food was to die for and all reasonably priced too, and that's without mentioning that the bar staff can pour an excellent pint of Guiness!! Bonus! All in all, the Hermanus was definitely a top choice for our well overdue holiday and we will 100% be back again! Thanks to all the staff for all their help and input to our holiday, it was greatly appreciated by us both.

Room Tip: The roundhouses with a seaview!

Visited for 5 nights in june with my partner and son...On arrival receptionist lady was very un-welcoming and miserable!!! Not a good first impression...upon getting keys and entering our single roundhouse we were met with a musty unpleasant stench....Decor very old, outdated, bathroom was pink!!! we opened up the sofa bed for our 3 year old son to have a nap and was met with a horrible must...It was quite un-hygenic so we didnt bother in the end.......And finally the positives..Hardly any....Location great right near the beach,Nice walk away from shops, pub etc.....Im very well travelled and wasnt expecting The Ritz but we paid well above its worth for a 5 night stay here and wouldnt reccomend....A bit of deep cleaning and decor doesnt cost the earth.....Yes it was a different experience in a little roundhouse but the negatives outweigh it all unfortunately...Even a smile from the staff would of been nice but that was hard......I dont recommend and very very unlikely that i would return as for the price we paid we could of gone abroad for a little exrtra..Avoid!!!

I stayed in one of the newly refurbished single roundhouses for 2 nights in June. No. 22.

The roundhouse was absolutely fantastic. Exceptionally clean, lots of kitchen equipment (I would have brought more food to eat there had I realised it was a full kitchen).

Very comfortable bed and bedding. Lovely shower room.

Only a few small niggles. No bedding supplied for the sofa bed. I didn't realise until late at night when my son was already asleep in the bedroom so I had to share a bed with him. I guess as we had booked for 2 they assumed we would share the double bed.

Winterton itself - great beach. Lovely beach cafe. Nice village with friendly staff in post office.

Ate in bar on site and the food was lovely. Very friendly and helpful Polish chef.

Nice play area and swimming pool on site and arcade/amusement/tuck shop which was nice.

Bar area OK with reasonably priced drinks and good range. Restaurant served nice breakfast options with added bonus of nice sea view.

We hope to return but with only 4 of the roundhouses currently refurbished we will book ahead to secure one of them as having a brand new one was lovely.

Room Tip: No. 22 is refurbished as are 3 other single roundhouses

Very well situated , in a small village , close to the sea. This a a very well kept site and obviously great efforts have been made to maintain the standard, accommodation varies from attract rive thatched roundhouses , to more traditional chalets and bungalows.
Inside the decoration and furnishing are a bit step back to the 70's. Comfortable and clean but chintzy.
Our initial meeting with the staff was great . The receptionist was friendly and helpful, it contrasted to the final day, when we were required to be out of the chalet by 9.30 am there was no receptionist and the children's playground was locked shut.
This was a little disappointing.

We have just returned from a weekend away, we stayed in a 6 bed detached bungalow. If you are looking for modern luxury then this isn't the place for you! But if your looking for a peaceful, quirky place close to the beach then it is! The bungalow was dated and a bit old fashioned but it was clean. The round houses look lovely and I would love to stay in one. It is close to the sandy beach maybe 10 minute walk. The village is lovely and pretty, not a lot going on here, we walked down to the local pub and had tea one night which was lovely! Close to Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk broads. We didn't eat on site or even go in for a drink so I can't comment about the site facilities. Booking was simple and friendly and on the whole can't fault the price I paid.
