Having had afternoon tea at Ballathie several times before we were very disappointed today. Our reserved table wasn't available and we were stuck in the hallway. The waitress was very apologetic and helpful and finally moved us into the Drawing Room.
Afternoon tea at £14.50 per head was very disappointing. The filling in the sandwiches was so sparse we couldn't even tell what it was! The bread was hard at the edges indicating the sandwiches weren't freshly prepared and had been left in the heat. The scones were like rock cakes, we were not given any choice of teas and all in all it was very poor quality and poor value for money. Very disappointing and couldn't recommend.

Stayed here by chance after nearby Hilton Hotel failed to fulfill our booking and suggest we transfer to Ballathie. Would never to back to a Hilton again! As for costs, the Hilton was 15% more expensive. The decor at Ballathie was far superior to any "chain" hotel and the food was out of this world. The room (a suite) was very large, with a seperate lounge area. The room was hot and had all the extras you would expect for this class of hotel. The grounds were beautiful with the river only 50m from the front door. The staff were very attentive and friendly.Overall hotel, staff, food and settling were all excellent and would definately recommed staying here

I won a 3 night stay here with dinner, bed and breakfast and it was absolutely wonderful.
The staff were first class, the food was amazing and the room and surrounding area were divine. It was truly a first class hotel and such a memorable holiday. I can't recommend it enough.

We had a family wedding on the 1st of May at Ballathie House, I can't begin to say how wonderful the whole week end was. The staff could not do enough for the wedding party and guests. The comfort and attention we recieved during our stay was beyond all expectations. I think we should all go back for the 1st wedding anniversary!! Arnaud could not do enought o help us in everyway possible. Every single guest commented on the perfection of the wedding day and venue. If I had to single out one thing it would have to be the most welcoming atmosphere ever recieved for a hotel. We all felt as if we lived there as we felt so at home! And there are not many places you can say that about! We will definately go back!!

Have just spent a relaxing couple of days here. The hotel prides itself on Quality of location and service. It meets both with its bedrooms, excellent staff service and public areas. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but it was perfectly prepared . Just looking for an excuse to go back again !

A good restaurant recommendation in the local area would be The Apron Stage in Stanley, just a few miles away. Food superb, service personal without over-attentive,but need to book(only has 18 covers).

Really loved this hotel. We got a last minute deal and had a great night away. The only strange thing was there was a lack of 'stuff'. The furniture was comfy but there were no vases of flowers, very few pictures and it felt as if it needed 'a woman's touch' a little bit of TLC.
Having said that I would recommend Ballathie. The food was great, the staff wonderful and the setting second to none.
We will definately go back in the hope that these few gripes are just a period of settling in.
A great stop off if you want to see Highland Perthshire.

It has been a lifelong dream of my 82 year old mother to visit Scotland and so when planning a belated birthday trip for her this year I wanted a memorable stay - and this certainly was, from the very moment that we arrived to the moment we left. As my mother has limited mobility I wanted a comfortable hotel that would be within an hour's drive of Edinburgh Airport, set in a quiet rural location with picturesque views and close enough to a number of sites of interest that we could visit and still enable mother to come back to the hotel for a mid-afternoon rest - Ballathie House delivered on all of these prerequisites and more. We arrived on our first day at 11am (check in was at 2pm) in the hope that we might be able to offload our luggage and we were met by Sharon, the Receptionist, who immediately led us into the Drawing Room and offered us tea whilst she checked on the status of our room and in all my years of international travel (this being mother's first holiday) I have never received such a warm and considerate welcome and this set the tone for the entire stay. Sharon returned within moments to say that although the room we had booked was not yet ready ( I had specifically booked a first floor room with a seperate shower cubicle for mother as their disabled room was already taken) we could either wait for that original room or that she would much prefer that we take a ground floor room instead as she had noticed mother's difficulty in walking and offered us a ground floor Riverside Suite that was immediately ready and at no additional charge. We accepted her immensely kind and considerate offer and could not had hoped for a more idyllic room or location - the Suites are in a separate block, a short walk from the main Hotel and with its own car park, set on the River and with a personal patio - the rooms were spotless; incredibly comfortable and warm with individual thermostat controls on all the radiators, which, although we stayed at a very mild time, aided mother's comfort enormously as she needs to keep the heating on constantly at home to help her osteoarthritis. The attention to detail in terms of comfort was absolutely impeccable, down to the point of the provision of a fruit knife with the complimentary bowl of fruit.. Although there were other guests in the Riverside block at the time of our stay, we were made aware of it only by the presence of other guests' cars - the soundproofing was exceptional. The location of the Hotel itself, although a little secluded, is all the more charming for it: the riverside location and blaze of autumnal colour in the beautiful gardens and sweeping, tree-lined drive gave us a sense of tranquility and peaceful solitude that is very rare. The welcome that we received at breakfast each morning matched the welcome of the first day and every single member of staff went out of their way to ask how mother's stay was and to assist us with our sightseeing plans - a wonderful stay,a beautiful hotel, an idyllic setting and beautifully understated service and a holiday that mother will remember always and one that I am so grateful for booking. Thank you Ballathie.
