I stayed at Ballathie House Hotel on 24th July 2010, with my husband, parents and brother. We'd spent the day Caterham driving for my dads 60th, and as Ballathie's just 10 mins up the road from Open Road Hire, we thought it'd be the perfect place to stay and have dinner.
The staff were pleasant, the evening meal was delicious, and the rooms in the main house are lovely, with huge bathrooms.
However, our stay was let down somewhat by breakfast. There was a continental buffet, with 'seasonal fruits' - however, despite it being July in Perthshire, there was not a raspberry or strawberry to be seen - disappointing. In addition, the pastries were those really rubbish mini croissants and pain au chocolat.
Furthermore, the 'freshly cooked' breakfast, which was supposed to be cooked to order, amazingly arrived about 5 mins after we'd ordered it. 'Wow!' I hear you say, 'quick service'. Yes, that's as may be, but only because everything apart from the eggs had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for some time, it might as well have been sitting out as a buffet. In addition, the sausages were inedible - I did think they perhaps just not to my taste, however the other 2 members of my party who'd ordered them, felt the same.
Very disappointing for the winner of Scotland's Rural Restaurant of the Year.

We held our Wedding at Ballathie House Hotel on the 5th July 2010. The hotel was perfect in every way. The setting is beautiful - we were married outside in the lovely grounds with the river in the background. The food was exceptional, the rooms spacious and clean, all with a view of the grounds or the river. The staff were fantastic, very obliging, helpful and well organized. We were looked after in every way. A great place to have a Wedding especially if you wish to have exclusive use of the hotel and all the rooms.
We will return again to Ballathie to enjoy this beautiful hotel in the near future.

Our room was one of the most gorgeous I've ever seen with a 4 poster bed, huge marbled bathroom and mind-popping views over the River Tay.

We'd heard that Ballathie has Scotland's 2010 Rural Restaurant of the Year and dinner fully lived up to the billing: Four courses for £41 isn't exactly cheap but it was well worth it. The succulent venison was particularly commendable and the desserts were mouth-watering, so much so that we shared each other's! The restaurant was understandable packed - and on a Monday night! Freshly cooked breakfasts were another treat although the buffet was on the sparse side.

It has an aristocratic air, being a baronial mansion in the middle of a huge working farm estate, but the service was impeccable and down to Earth.

It's a perfect place for a romantic break, golf (the Rosemount, Blairgowrie course is just down the road), sightseeing, a business meeting (we were told its boardroom can hold 16) or special events such as a wedding or anniversary.

Bliss!

At £14.50 per head, one would expect good service. We arrived with my mother for her birthday. As not having been here before, did not know what to expect. The waiter arrived asked us what we wanted to drink, then brought our drinks, about 15 minutes later, we received a selection of sandwiches, and a few different cakes, and one scone each. We never saw him again in the 2 hours that we were there. We had to go and ask for more water and milk. No one came to check on us, to see if everything was alright. It is such a shame, that in such a beautiful setting, that they could not get the service right. When we were ready to leave, we had to go and find someone so that we could pay our bill. As we live in the area we had high hopes of making it a regular place to visit for us. But after this kind of service, we will not return.

Having had afternoon tea at Ballathie several times before we were very disappointed today. Our reserved table wasn't available and we were stuck in the hallway. The waitress was very apologetic and helpful and finally moved us into the Drawing Room.
Afternoon tea at £14.50 per head was very disappointing. The filling in the sandwiches was so sparse we couldn't even tell what it was! The bread was hard at the edges indicating the sandwiches weren't freshly prepared and had been left in the heat. The scones were like rock cakes, we were not given any choice of teas and all in all it was very poor quality and poor value for money. Very disappointing and couldn't recommend.

Stayed here by chance after nearby Hilton Hotel failed to fulfill our booking and suggest we transfer to Ballathie. Would never to back to a Hilton again! As for costs, the Hilton was 15% more expensive. The decor at Ballathie was far superior to any "chain" hotel and the food was out of this world. The room (a suite) was very large, with a seperate lounge area. The room was hot and had all the extras you would expect for this class of hotel. The grounds were beautiful with the river only 50m from the front door. The staff were very attentive and friendly.Overall hotel, staff, food and settling were all excellent and would definately recommed staying here

I won a 3 night stay here with dinner, bed and breakfast and it was absolutely wonderful.
The staff were first class, the food was amazing and the room and surrounding area were divine. It was truly a first class hotel and such a memorable holiday. I can't recommend it enough.
