“A piece of heaven in the bush.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2013

Peacefully tucked away in the Eastern Cape, surrounded by game, bush and river. Sleeping in comfortable private tents with en suite bathrooms gives you the perfect opportunity to get back to nature and escape the craziness of city living. Friendly service, great food, intelligent conversation, comfort and total relaxation. Best 3 night get away I've had.

Room Tip: Tent with river view.

I have travelled extensively over the last 30 years all over Africa & stayed in luxury accommadation and parks in Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and many game parks in South Africa including private lodges in the Kruger, Addo, Shamwari -also done all styles - from wild camping (shoestring!) to top end & have just returned from Sibuya where I stayed for 1 week; It is the best ever, best arrival - by boat (exquisite & exclusive way to arrive), best climate, best food, best game/birds & expertise from rangers; No malarial prophylaxis! Also one of the most dedicated staff team in terms of 'eco preservation' & Save the Rhino project done completely 'off their on bat' up to now! - after more than 20 different seperate safaris this is the best one ever by far; Rangers: Justin, Verner, Chris - top notch!

Room Tip: both camps equally fabulous - safe, walkways well lit

Dear James,
Thanks so much for your wonderful praise. I will be sure to pass onto all the rangers and staff in camp with the warning that the bar has been now been set so high that the really will have to keep on their toes to maintain it.

I have to say, from an owner of a hospitality establishment's perspective, so much of what our guests get out of the experience is dependant on what they put into it . Those, like you, with a clear love of the bush and the outdoors really manage to bring out the best in our staff and I can only thank you for it - Sibuya is a better place for having had you and you family to visit.

We are only an 8 hour flight from Wales so we look forward to having you back to visit sometime very soon!!

Remember the wonderful meaning of " Sibuya" ... we will return!!

What a fantastic find! who knew such luxury and beauty existed such a short drive from PE. Secluded, private and beautiful. The luxury of a tented lodge, somewhat casual and relaxed environment, yet with attentive, friendly staff members who are always availble for your needs. We stayed at Forest Camp - beautful tented camps. Communual area with bar and dining facilities where one could relax on lazy couches and soak up the atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful scenery and a unique boat trip from your car to the lodge. Having both a self-catering and catred for option is also unique - we did a bit of both which was great. Food provided is great - generous portion sizes! The staff really helped make this trip extra special - knowledgeable on the wildlife and surrounds and only to happy to chat. Extra special mention to Bryan our ranger - entertaining host with a wealth of knowledge.

We had a wonderful stay at Sibuya, very different experience viewing the game from a riverboat as well as from a vehicle. Game are healthy and our guide passed on so much extra information regarding the animals. Tented camp was luxurious and relaxing. Staff are friendly, hands on and put themselves out to assist visitors.

Room Tip: ask for river facing

We went on a river cruise and game viewing trip with Chris, our guide, who made the day so special with attendance to detail and his great knowledge of birds, game and flora of the region. This experiece was unique! We are already talking of going back at Sibuya for a longer stay! Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us!

I was definitely not expecting it. I mean really not. When we stopped at the entrance, i thought: "This simply cannot be it. It just can't. I mean we are still in the middle of the city and we are meant to go to a tented game reserve? So how on earth are we going to get to the actual reserve? This is insane." And surely enough, we embarked on a small boat on our way to the lodge, (we had to travel up the river). We were served refreshments which was nice on our 20min (or so) 'drive' to the lodge. Once we got there, we were truly cut off from society and that was truly brilliant. We had found our little heaven for our 4-day weekend.

The lodge itself is nice. The food was quite good, it really was. The tented rooms were very clean and even though the showers may look rustic and a bit dodgy, they are absolutely brilliant. I have no clue who came up with the design, but the shower just work really well. Furthermore, i was worried about mosquitoes and spiders in the room; but i can honestly say that i was not bothered by either and i slept really well.

Our ranger, Brian, was also absolutely brilliant, he really knew what he was talking about. He was also very passionate. Even though he may not be there when you visit, it appears that Sibuya does higher good rangers.

Now the game reserve is really nice, there are certain breath taking spots where you can admire the true beauty of the lodge.

Overall it was a very good experience.

Room Tip: Which ever room you are going to be surrounded by spiders :P Of course, they will only be outside, b...

Dear Maxime,

Thank you for your wonderful words.

It comes as a big surprise to a lot of people when they have to turn towards the sea to go to our game reserve.
But this is the magic that is the Sibuya experience - you start at the river mouth and slowly work your way up the estuary into the dense riverine forest that surround our camps on the banks of the river.
There is no question that Sibuya is different - but as you point out, it is the wonderful rangers and camp staff that really make it such a memorable experience.
We look forward to your return someday soon.

This was one of the highlights of our trip in South Africa. I would highly recommend anyone any age to go here. Every person that worked here made our trip special and memorable. The meals, accommodations and entertainment were above and beyond what we could have expected. I will make sure I come back here and anyone that I know who visits South Africa will make this a stop on their journey.
