“Only if your Fit!!”
Reviewed 9 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed at the Bolt Hole for a week in June 2015 and I count my self lucky that we are relitivley Fit as there is a lot of walking up and down to do 84 steps to be exact, if your looking for this sort of holiday then it is fine,
It is important to know that you will need to clime ladders in side the town house as well, not good for kids or older people.
The area is Medieval so a good exsperiance when walking but not as a car driver!! the Lake is the best bit when you find your way there.
Restaurants are good but it helps to speak Italian, Beer is Euro 5 per 500cc
A safe area with frendley people.

“Excellent Caccamo vacation home located where the locals live.”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

My wife and son spent 4 wonderful nights at the Bolthole. It includes a small rooftop furnished with a table and chairs where one can enjoy viewing the neighboring rooftops and of course, the beautiful castle. There are great restaurants, bars offering snacks and pastries as well as many alimentari selling locally produced products nearby. The convenience of a vacation home shines when you decide to stock up on meats, cheeses, cold drinks and other supplies to enable eating in from time to time. The Bolthole is located in a very old and beautiful part of Caccamo. What is there to see in Caccamo? Probably anyone considering spending a few days in Caccamo knows about the castle, but in addition there are many churches, history, art, a nearby lake, tons of narrow cobblestoned streets to explore, and the list goes on and on.
Every local we met was friendly, outgoing and interested in engaging in conversation. Whenever we asked a local for directions or advice we were always impressed with their willingness to stop what they were doing and offer assistance.
The Bolthole is definitely on my list for a return visit.

“Modern, yet comfy layout, great kitchen, cosy beds andstunning views”
Reviewed 14 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Lovely conversion of the lower floors of a small traditional house, so everything beautifully compact and cosy.
Great modern kitchen with everything you'd need to selfcater.
Quite steep stairs down to the bathroom and bedrooms, but so lovely and cool at night.
Steep ladder to roof 'terrace' , stunning views but very overlooked, and compact.
If you don't like steps then this is not for you, but if you want a touch of the true 'Sicily' and don't mind a bit of exercise - or have a car then give this place a go.

“Authentic house happily nestled in hillside village”
Reviewed 30 January 2013 for a stay in August 2012

My 4 year old son and I stayed in the summer 2012 for a week with friends. It was a delight. The house is a no fuss no nonsense village home nestled in the old part of Caccamo high above the surrounding countryside. It has 2 adjoining bedrooms downstairs and an open kitchen dinning area upstairs. The beds work, the cooker works the sunshine works. The roof is accessible via a roof hatch and ladder. Many evenings were spent watching the castle gently changing colour in the fading golden light, enjoying a bbq, a cold beer and the kamikaze swifts zipping fearlessly to and fro.

Being away from the coast the village felt very Italian. We went to a couple of excellent restaurants and lively bars with what seemed like the rest of the village. Local kids football tournament going on on one side and the rest of the family shooting the breeze the other. Meals finish anytime from 10pm to midnight or till done with kids happily asleep all over parents by the end of the night. Forget about buggies as the short walk back to the house is stepped.

In the day we went all over the place. 5 mins down the road by car to the lake and out water skiing, on canoes and pedalos or down to the myriad of beaches from 20 mins plus away. Always finish the day off with a quality coffee and proper lovely ice-cream from the lovely cafe at the start of the steps.

It is not a ranging farmhouse in the country it is an original little village house strapped onto the side of the hill in amongst other strapped on houses. If felt gloriously other worldly and disconnected with life back home. If you don't like winding roads or carrying young kids then it will be the wrong place. If you want the beach on your doorstep it isnt, it is 20 mins away. If you like no pretension, options, mountain views and the chance to gently explore then its fab. I'll be coming back.
