“Beautiful and secluded”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2011

I would highly recommend this B&B. A beautiful home nestled in a wonderful garden setting, sit and read a book in front of the open fire or stroll around the gardens. Bill and Gay are excellent hosts and the food was wonderful. In addition to a hot cooked breakfast made from the best ingredients we also stayed in for dinner. A superb three course candlelit dinner was expertly cooked by our hosts. The lodge is somewhat isolated so staying in for dinner was a good move.

We were given our stay as an engagement present, which we were eagerly anticipating. Unfortunately this was one of the wierdest travel experiences we have ever had.

peterfromtheUK hit the nail on the head... the proprietor hovers, making you feel very uncomfortable. We tried to engage in conversation, but it was quickly shut down. We offered to open & share a nice bottle of wine before dinner but this was rejected.

The house is beautiful, with superb finishes & it is tastefully decorated. The only thing missing from the house is a sense of home. We felt like we were imposing on our grandparents house (grandparents who don't talk to each other).

Thank goodness another couple arrived shortly before dinner. As with Peter, we too ordered their "candlelight gourmet dinner". We were not expecting to share a table with a couple we had just met. We have to admit, the food was brilliant, but is was served robotically.

We swapped stories & laughed all night with the other couple about the experience, only this made the stay bearable. We were all eager to leave in the morning.

  • Liked — The house was superb.
  • Disliked — The hosts.

This B&B calls itself a lodge, but that is wishful thinking. What you get is a small bedroom in someone's house, albeit quite a nice house. The garden is nice but the location is 30 km from anywhere but Mt. Tomah. Proprietor hovers, making one feel very uncomfortable. Put a lot of pressure on ordering their "candlelight gourmet dinner" at $130/couple. If you can pay the $240/night rate then I suggest you go to Lilienfels in Katoomba instead.
