Owner description: Area of Badlands National Park with unusual scenery and wildlife such as bighorn sheep, buffalo, black-footed ferrets and prairie dogs.

I'm not sure if this counts but we drove the Sage Creek Road. The first 5 miles or so are a washboard at best but then it settles down. There are several overlooks and we also saw some bison.

We enjoyed this as much or more than the loop road. Gorgeous views and off the beaten path so less people. Herd of 100 bison off the road and lots of prairie dogs.

This is a dirt road and either a 4x4, truck or study vehicle is recommended. Very nice lookout views of landscape and wildlife. This road is closed during the night.

This is a place where many people will not visit because of the unpaved road. To reach this start from Keystone and take 44 and then Sage creek road. Less crowds and a lot of buffalos. Since it is unpaved you need to drive carefully. As usual you will see unusual formation of badlands topography.

The overlooks along Hwy 240 are usually packed, unless you're there quite early in the AM. However, there is an unpaved road to the west of Pinnacle's Overlook. You can see it as a solid black line on the map you get when you enter the park. Take this road to hit a few overlooks which give you a mix of Badlands and Grassland vistas, but without any of the crowds. It's perfect for amateur photographers looking to take shots without the throngs of people. Also, we say a lot more wildlife along this unpaved road than we did along Hwy 240 / loop road.

This review is of the Sage Creek Overlook, which is in the Wilderness Area, but no the only thing to do there. There are trails and campsites that we saw but did not visit because of the afternoon heat in July.
