Wow!this was my husband's dream to take his family here. I wasn't that excited but went along. We are a family of 9(2 small grandsons) To see the caverns is a must! It is truly amazing and a wonder. We walked into the cavern and toured the great room. Oh my, what wonders our God has created.
It's also affordable. We paid extra and rented radios. Very informative. Wouldn't do it without.

Thank Tina W

What a spectacular place!!! Completely in awe! We rode the elevator down to the Big Room (broken ankle not completely healed), all the way down 750 feet to the bottom! What a ride!

It is a mile plus walk through the pathway, which has a hand rail all along. It’s 56 degrees at the bottom so dress accordingly.

We had a quesadilla ($9.25) and tostada (there were 2) ($6.50) which were very tasty. Great helpful staff in gift area.

A must see!

This is by far the best National Park That has Caverns! We took the 750 foot hike down into the caverns. My favorite part was seeing all of the bats zooming in and out of the cave! We took the elevator back up. There is miles and miles of steep walking underground into the caverns. I would recommend bringing a flashlight to see where your walking. It says online that the path is “well lit” in some areas it’s not so bring a flashlight! The views were breathtaking! We went on a Friday and there was no line to get onto the elevator back up. Definitely a must see! If you’ve never been go! The $12 admission fee is worth every cent!

We elected to take the self guided tour at the natural entrance. There are (I think) 60 switchbacks on the path and the total descent is about 750 feet. Some of the slopes are fairly steep. It is dimly lit and a bit spooky for the faint of heart. It was a relief to have the 56 degree temperature in the cave after sweltering in the hot sun outside. We didn't make the entire trip, but got well into the cave and out of the last of the daylight. The natural entrance path may be better suited to younger legs.
The price was great - free with my National Park Service senior pass.

We decided to do the $12 self-guided Audio Tour (paid for at the gift shop) and thoroughly enjoyed it. This allowed us to not be hemmed into when we would arrive to join a tour, and also go at our own pace and listen to what we found interesting. The Natural Entrance Tour took us about 1 1/2 hours, then we took a break and went to the Big Room as well, which took about an hour. NOTE: The only food you are allowed to bring with you into the caves is food that they will sell you, but water is allowed. This was a great way to see Carlsbad Caverns, but if able, definitely go to the evening 'bat flight'. We had a wonderful time: the ranger fielded a great array of questions with ease, and we were treated to see many bats make their evening flight!
