A suggestion was made to us while traveling from Seattle to Big Sur, CA to stop at Crater Lake, OR. Wow am I glad we did! It was early June, so snow was still on the ground, which meant you could not easily hike the trails (unless you had proper gear). But the temps were in the 60s and it was beautiful, so we just drove around the perimeter of the lake; each and every stopping point was like a postcard! I really enjoyed the gift shop (and I'm not at all a big shopper) because it was very tasteful with great t-shirts, candles and books. There is also a cafe with sandwiches, salads and snacks. A definite must-see for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
