“Great hotel”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

We recently stayed for 3 nights in a dune view room and had a fantastic time. Our room was spacious, really comfortable with a full fridge, bath/shower and tv. The whole property is very well laid out with a bar/restaurant, general store, gift shop and helpful reception staff who will give advice on places to visit, upcoming ranger talks etc. Everything is very clean. There is a gas station here which is very convenient (and surprisingly, reasonably priced!). The food in the bar was simple and tasty and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We were there during one of the movie nights (which I think are every week or two) and they showed The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on a big screen with free popcorn - lots of fun! Mosaic Canyon and the dunes are both a 2 minute drive away. I highly recommend both, especially the dunes at sunrise. Really magical. Furnace Creek is around a 20min drive. The property is large so it's easy to find a quiet spot for a sundowner..the skies at night are spectacular. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, by far the best hotel of our 2 week road trip through California. Go for a dune view room and you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Dune view rooms are the best, very large and comfortable

We had booked our overnight stay at Stovepipe Wells in a standard room & standard it was. The shower was just a trickle & the hot water was almost non existent. The bed linen was clean but the room looked as though it could do with a good vacuum - it just felt grotty. The airconditioner, although effective was very noisey.
Breakfast was appalling - we arrived at 8.00am - the food hadn't been replenished, there was no clean crockery or plates. I couldn't see any wait staff, so I knocked on the kitchen door & asked a couple of young men, who were deep in conversation, for the above & was met by blank stares - after a 15 minute wait, I then asked the lady who was seating customers if she could do something. She obviously had more effect on the staff than me & within another 15minutes - tables were being cleared, clean utensils arrived & food was replenished.
Just not good enough!

Simple clean accommodations. Front office staff were very courteous; reasonable rates. The on-site dining was very nice--very cozy ambience and friendly staff. Location is A+: close to the Mesquite San Dunes which was perfect for seeing them at sunrise; Also close to Mosaic Canyon and the road to Scotty's Castle, etc. Furnace Creek is about 20 minutes down the road.

The General Store has about everything you might need during a stay there; there's also a gas station which is very convenient. Gas was a bout $0.50 cheaper per gallon compared to Furnace Creek.

Stovepipe Wells Village is very quiet compared to Furnace Creek which seems to be the more popular place for lodging. We liked the quiet and desolate atmosphere which made us enjoy our visit to Death Valley all the more. A bottle of wine from the General Store, 2 glasses from the room, and a park bench overlooking the dunes at dusk--doesn't get any better than this. FYI, we stayed 2 nights...should have stayed one more.

Room Tip: You'd be in your room only to sleep...so it does not matter much.

We stayed one night during our overnight trip to Death Valley. Our emphasis was sightseeing and stargazing. We stayed in one of the larger rooms with two queens, in the Road Runner building, dune view. Beds were comfortable, water was hot, in room coffee was Seattle's Best (yum.) The staff was very helpful and friendly. Had one meal to go from the restaurant and enjoyed it outside under the stars, it was good. Saloon is nice. The entire resort is very welcoming with a relaxed feel. We loved it and will definitely stay there again. What a treat!

We stayed here 3 years ago and visited again in 10/13. The rooms have been updated, the bed was new and comfortable, good linens. Flat screen tv. But still not anything special. A decent place to spend the night and be inside the park. WIFI still terrible, virtually unusable. Only got it to load ONE webpage one time after many various attempts at different times of day. In room refrigerator VERY noisy - woke me up every time it kicked on during the night.

Restaurant and bar still mediocre, dated with limited menus. Stop serving at 9 and the little general store closes then too. So get there before 9 or go hungry!

Great nights stay, very comfortable and spacious rooms with all facilities you need. Only stayed one night as we were travelling through the park, but could have stayed more. Restaurant had good food with good selection and plenty for breakfast too, but its the only place to eat. Pool was good and open till late.

Room Tip: it's worth paying for deluxe room,as more spacious and views are great!

My husband and I spent one night here in August towards the end of a three week road trip. We have stayed here several times before and have always found it to be exactly what we wanted. We had one of the bigger rooms in the 49ers block. Really comfortable big room, two lovely comfortable beds, fridge, big bathroom- and amazing view of the dunes! We had breakfast in the dining room which was extremely good- and really atmospheric decor. The atmosphere here is totally informed by the location- perfect. We have a precious memory of sitting out at midnight on one of the benches (tucked away slightly up the hill to the side of the room blocks) in total peace watching the perfect sky and stars- still around 100 degrees- bliss! We would love to return and would highly recommend!

Room Tip: Worth paying for one of the bigger rooms with a dune view
