“Easy to visit on Highway 190”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

Zabriskie point provides stunning views of Death Valley geology just hundreds of feet away from the main road, Highway 190. Very easy to visit even if you have just 15 minutes to spare on your way from Yosemite to Las Vegas for instance. There are also toilets on the parking lot. Recommended to take some water along even for a short visit since the heat is sveltering.

“Great Vista Anytime, Not Just at Sunset”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

We stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch on May 9 and May 10, 2014. The first night, I was a little too late for the sunset and the sunset was not very impressive the second night. However, it was still a terrific vista. And, it was only 15 minutes from Furnace Creek Ranch.

For sunset photos, be sure to arrive at the Point at least 1 hour before sunset.

Once you arrive at the parking lot, you have to walk uphill about 5 minutes to get to the best viewpoint. You will see professional photographers with their long tripods all set up to capture the scenes. But, we just had a point and shoot camera and it seemed to work fine for us.

The various colors of the sand, rocks, and mountains from Zabriskie Point were amazing.

“Silence. Serenity. Surreal. Walk to Zabriskie Point.”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

The very best way to appreciate Zabriskie Point is to walk there from the Golden Canyon. The parking lot and trail head for Golden Canyon is on Badwater Road which is only 2 miles from Furnace Creek Ranch. We walked into Golden Canyon, and there are markers indicating .6 mile and the 1 mile point. At 1 mile, the signpost for Zabriskie Point is on your right.

We stayed a night at Furnace Creek Ranch which allowed us any early start, hiking at 6:15am before the temperature was too high. Starting in the Golden Canyon gives a unique perspective as you look upwards to the Red Cathedral.
Walking quietly on the sandy trail was the ultimate in serenity. Ask yourself when have you experienced absolute total silence in nature, not a bird chirping, nor a puff of wind. Our family stood motionless for couple of minutes on the trail absolutely transfixed by the silence. Surreal landscape, serene vistas. A photographer's dreamscape.

Continuing along the winding trail we looked up - there was Zabriskie Point elevated above us. When we ascended the lookout point we were able to truly appreciate what our eyes were looking at because we had just walked through the picture-perfect landscape. We felt so sorry for the people who simply arrived in the parking lot, took photos and drove away. They had no idea they missed the most surrealistic views along the trail below.

Even though our start was 6:15am the temperature was 93 degrees (June 12) and we each carried 2 liters of water and a protein bar. We retraced our steps to the parking lot on Badwater Road and by 8:45am it was 101 degrees. The earlier you can start is to your advantage, less heat, less thirst. The trail is not steep, a few ups and downs, anyone of moderate walking ability will be able to do this.

“Good location for sunrise and sunset”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

During my 6 day visits of Death Valley NP, the Zabriskie Point was my favourite for photography. You just have to walk a short distance from you car to shoot, which makes taking a tripod and camera bag painless. I consider the Zabriskie Point a must-see in the Death Valley National Park. When you are there, don't miss the nearby 20 Mule Team Canyon, which is only a few minutes drive from the Zabriskie Point. Both locations deserve some attention if you enjoy photography as I do.
