“Lovely cottage and views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2014 via mobile

I stayed in the cottage at Pannamint springs , for 2 nights at the end of December, it's was lovely, very comfy beds, warm, and nice lounge area. The views from here are amazing and almost better than Death Valley which gets all the creds, the only dampener was they charge you 50c for hot water, when having just paid $150 a night you would think it would be free, otherwise very recommended for a stay.

Having come through Death Valley (Furnace Creek; Stovepipe Wells) I stayed at this resort's campground and ate at the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. It was by far the friendliest environment I had experienced in a month of cycle touring. The place is family-owned and managed and everyone does their genuine best to make you feel comfortable. The food was excellent (the best in the whole National Park) and the selection of beers exceptional. The General Store has fair prices. In short, if you want the most beautiful views in Daeth Valley National Park and the most interesting atmosphere stay here!

Stayed One Night in December 2013, Excellent just what was needed,
,
Very basic, but that is to be expected considering the location.

Delighted that it was a clear night and we saw countless stars and the Milky Way, Awesome.

Food was excellent and the service was very friendly.

Stayed 1 night September 2013. Ideally located for Death Valley, west side, if you don't want the inside the park rates. Cabins are old fashioned but homely. Facilities are limited but this added to the charm for us. Anyone expecting full mod cons should read the small print first - No TV, phone, cell, Wifi. Aircon is centralised in the rooms and works ok. Though not as efficient as an individual unit it was quiet. Getting away from it all with desert views and starry skies makes up for the hustle a bustle of town life and a road trip.

This review pertains mainly to the campground and not the motel. I camped here for 3 nights with three friends. We were coming from/leaving in different directions, arriving at different times in three vehicles and pitching three separate tents. This campground works really well for this type of trip since each party could handle their own reservation, the price is a bargain and the cancellation policy is less punitive than most campgrounds. With most public campgrounds, our group tends to be too large for a single "family" site and too small for an (often very expensive) group site. Sites tend to be closely spaced, which worked out great for us but might be less desirable for single tent campers when the campground is full. We all requested adjacent sites when we made our reservations and this was honored. Our assigned sites were clustered in a shady area near the bathroom and directly across from the nice restaurant and somewhat away from other campers. Though we were never rowdy, we probably stayed up later talking than most other campers so our location was a good call. Our only complaint was the limited capacity of the bathroom, particularly the single stall in the Men's room, which was in constant use throughout the morning. Location of the resort is OK. Views of Panamint Dunes are great from sites near the back of the campground. Stovepipe wells and Furnace Creek are a fairly long haul over Towne Pass, something to take into account if one's vehicle guzzles gas. There's no way of getting around the fact, though, that a visit to Death Valley and Panamint areas entails a lot of driving; this a vast area. Our activities were centered around exploring the Panamints and Argus range in my Jeep, though I did refuel once in Stovepipe wells where gas is over $1.5 cheaper than at Panamint Springs.

Room Tip: Sites towards the rear of the campground have the best views. Sites towards the front of the campgro...

If you want posh, urbane pampering, consider the Furnace Creek Inn. If you want to thoroughly enjoy the desert for what it is, without manicured artificiality, this place is fabulous. Away from the throngs in Death Valley proper. Celebrating the natural surroundings and aesthetics. Providing simple but excellent food, and a friendly oasis/home base for the explorer -- for a night or a week. Campground offers simple desert comfort overlooking Panamint Valley expanses, or an RV village under the tamarasks. We're definitely going back.

Room Tip: Reserve well ahead for best camping locations.

People that are complaining about this place obviously haven't done their research. Although I probably wouldn't refer to Panamint Springs Resort as a "resort," it is a fairly-priced place to stay with a restaurant, bar, gas station, and general store.

My friend and I stayed here for two days last February while exploring Death Valley. There were two heaters in our room, which kept the room a comfortable temperature during the chilly Death Valley winter nights. We were told ahead of time that there is no cell phone reception and no TVs in the room, so we came prepared with a few movies to watch on our laptops for when we were back in our room. There is wireless internet, but it is very slow during the day, to the point of not working at all. We were warned about it ahead of time, and weren't expecting or relying on it, so it was fine (although one morning before taking off early to see sunrise at the Mesquite Sand Dunes, we did have luck connecting to wireless).

Overall, Panamint Springs Resort is a good place to stay, and definitely was the best value. Unless you're camping in an RV or a tent, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better price. Very minimalistic, but it's not like we came to Death Valley to be pampered in some luxury hotel-- we came to explore the beautiful California and Nevada desert.

People complaining about the prices here (or anywhere in Death Valley, really) aren't considering where they are. Death Valley is VERY sparse and extreme, and it isn't easy to get things out there without driving a long way or without flying shipments of food and other items in. The prices are going to reflect that.
