“Furnace Creek Ranch”
Reviewed 6 August 2004

We stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch in September 2001 en route to Las Vegas.

We thought the accommodation was clean and fairly spacious and the pool was lovely after a fairly long drive through the desert.

Food and service was good.

If we had been given the choice of staying at the Inn or Ranch (our holiday brochure only showed the Ranch) we probably would have picked the Inn, but found the Ranch to be ideal considering we were only there for one night.

It is unfortunate that my wife has a morbid fear of snakes as it would have been better value for money to have stayed in a tent nearby!
We stayed in the parkside rooms, this, despite the upgraded price was reminiscent of a $30 a night motel, dinghy, poorly furnished and grubby. The pool was reminiscent of a 1950 Municipal facility, poorly maintained with peeling surfaces and no umbrellas (it's a 110 F for Gods sake!).
We appreciate that they are a long way from any supplies and the only facility to be be had but they could spend some money on the place and make you feel you hadn't been ripped off!
Next time I visit the savage wonder of Death Valley I would sooner drive there and return to a better motel despite the distance involved. Very Poor.

This is a jewel in the desert! particularly the natural spring water swimming pool - at 85 degrees it was blissful after a long car journey. Swimming in the desert moonlight was an unforgetable and memorable experience - don't miss out on this oasis of moonlit bliss!!!! abigail ashby

Arrived 29.6.04 after long drive for overnight stay enroute to Las Vegas.

Stayed at the Inn and sadly only one restaurant available for everyone to eat in with a limited menu. Food turned out to be OK and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Couldn't sit out on patio initially as restaurant refurbishment workers, in next room decided that the grassed area was an American football pitch, with them continually running onto our patio to catch or retrieve the ball. I know we were below sea level but no need for low ballers.

Very impressed with area - Total change from last location - Yosemite. Had never felt heat like it!

Stayed 2 nights at Furnace Creek Ranch during June. The ranch is well organised and clean, the staff were freindly and our room was clean and comfortable. The location is perfect and although a little on the pricey side, I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Shame we only stayed one night. The ranch is very open our own room looked out over the golf course and mountains to one side and i you turned a little to the left was all the stabling for the horse riding

the pool was wonderful as its a natural spring water (no chemicals)

we will come again but I think you need to stay a couple of nights to be able to explore Death valley correctly - Bad water, artist view, devils golf course, the canyons,

You think you must have taken a wrong turn just after death valley junction because the road seems to go on forever

The staff in the 49ers cafe were great. they even gave us half portains and they were still massive

we even saw people running towards Bad water and cycling

what a weird wonderful place

My husband and I planned to stay at Furnace Creek Ranch on our way to Yosemite, but we lasted only an hour.

Furnace Creek Ranch is the worst place I have (never) stayed. I booked a parkside room, it was dirty, dark and dingy. It needs immediate and complete refurbishment.

Definately not worth the $149!
