“Great place to stay in Death Valley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2004

Unfortunately there was not much of the Death Valley sights open due to the floods when we were there, but we enjoyed our stay nonetheless. Yes, the rooms are basic motel type, but they are clean, have comfortable beds and good air conditioning. We were really close to the pool, which was really bizarre as the water was warm as it was spring fed. The onsite shop was brilliant and had some great Native American souvenirs as well as every day items. We ate in both the Wrangler steakhouse and 49er cafe. The food was very good and value for money considering you were in the middle of nowhere. Highly recommended.

Stayed here just after the flash floods in September. The reception staff were very helpful and everything you needed was in the room - the only one in our stay to provide tea and coffee making - nice one! Due to the immense water pressure (brilliant shower!) had a few problems but thanks to an efficient maintanance man it was sorted straight away - Thanks! The museum/ restaurant and shop staff are also ace. As previouslyreported the prices are very very reasonable although they have the monopoly in the area. In fact the wine was the cheapest I had had whilst in the area (pricewise that is). NICE PLACE with lovely sunsets! Be sure to visit Scotty's castle

Furnace Creek is in the perfect location to visit the spectacular natural wonder of Death Valley. We stayed at the Ranch in July - it was 106F at 10pm! Our room was perfectly adequate with a balcony providing views of the golf course and mountains. The room is probably overdue a refurbishment but as we only stayed one night this was a minor issue. I used the swimming pool early in the morning when it was delightfully quiet. We had an evening meal in the Wrangler Steakhouse, where service and food were excellent. A stroll on the footpath along the golf course was cut short by a grumpy groundskeeper in a buggy - they are the same the world over. The course did however look immaculate if you can stand the heat long enough to play a round. Don't expect 5* hotel standards but with its location and on site facilities the Ranch is an ideal place stay for a visit to Death Valley.

Stayed here with my family at the end of July for one night. The place was jam packed with Dutch, English and French people - the Americans only come at the cooler times of year.

Hotel was ok, of course the location is everything. The hotel looks dated with separate accommodation blocks (Butlins holiday camp style). Our room had been redecorated recently and was very clean, with a balcony overlooking the golf course and mountains behind.

Although it was 120F when we arrived late afternoon, the ac meant the room was wonderfully cool. However, we all felt very cold during the night. I thought it was just me and kept quiet but in the morning realised we all felt cold and should have left the patio door open during the night to make the temperature more comfortable (they ask you not to alter the ac yourself).

We decided to give the pool a miss in the evening because it looked so busy but got up early in the morning and had it to ourselves - wonderful! After our swim, realised most other guests had already had breakfast and left so it was peaceful and quiet, which was nice. Very good leisurely breakfast - great buffet.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Would love to return at a cooler time of year.

We stayed here for one night and found the hotel to be good. The Location was great and what you pay for, well inside the national park and close to all the major attractions of Death Valley. As we only had the day there this was essential. The ranch is situated next to two good restaurants and a bar, which considering the location were not too expensive. The room was clean, included a fridge and was moderately priced again considering the location. The only downside was that the air con was a bit loud and with the temperatures outside around 85F it was needed. My boyfriend has told me that a large beetle (7cm) visited our bathroom during the night however I assume this is to be expected with the remoteness of the location. I certainly did not see any bugs, just make sure you sleep with your mouth closed!

We stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch in September 2001 en route to Las Vegas.

We thought the accommodation was clean and fairly spacious and the pool was lovely after a fairly long drive through the desert.

Food and service was good.

If we had been given the choice of staying at the Inn or Ranch (our holiday brochure only showed the Ranch) we probably would have picked the Inn, but found the Ranch to be ideal considering we were only there for one night.

It is unfortunate that my wife has a morbid fear of snakes as it would have been better value for money to have stayed in a tent nearby!
We stayed in the parkside rooms, this, despite the upgraded price was reminiscent of a $30 a night motel, dinghy, poorly furnished and grubby. The pool was reminiscent of a 1950 Municipal facility, poorly maintained with peeling surfaces and no umbrellas (it's a 110 F for Gods sake!).
We appreciate that they are a long way from any supplies and the only facility to be be had but they could spend some money on the place and make you feel you hadn't been ripped off!
Next time I visit the savage wonder of Death Valley I would sooner drive there and return to a better motel despite the distance involved. Very Poor.
