We dined at the Saloon, and were disappointed with the New Year's limited menu offerings (only about 4 entree choices) & excessive holiday price tag. You may wish to call ahead for menu if visiting on a holiday. A bar is adjacent the saloon. There is a gift shop next to the office with some nice pieces of turquoise jewelry. A General Store is across the street. We stayed in the Stovepipe Wells Village motel. It is old & tired, and our stay was an uncomfortable one (also reviewed). Old-timey memorabilia exists on the property, but nothing spectacular. This property is in a convenient location to some of the Death Valley attractions. I also stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch and found it better located to more of DV's sights. If given the choice of lodging & dining, Furnace Creek Ranch is much nicer...and (when I visited) the same price.
