Very quiet in July - out of season as too hot,
Stopped for drinks and a break in general. Chance to stock up on water

I've eaten here three times and prefer it over Forty-Nine Cafe in Furnace Creek. Their veggie burger came with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and fries for about $12 and it was all pretty good with a rattlesnake sauce. I got lesser shredded lettuce and a small handful of chips at Forty-Niner Cafe.

Also the chili and cornbread is pretty darn good. The ice cream and cookie dessert is yummy!

We had the breakfast buffet one morning. They have a cheaper continental breakfast and the $12 full buffet with hot food. The french toast, eggs, and potatoes were great. They also had grits or oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, and lots of other goods including coffee and juice. More than enough, I got seconds and it was a great way to start of the day before a hike.

The service has always been good and amiable.

Whether it was a night of just the two of us or the night nine of us had reservations, the wait was ridiculously long. Though we were the very first diners to be seated at opening time on the night nine of us had reservations, it took an hour to be served and by then most all of the diners who had come in after us had dinner! Another oddity is that they won't give you a straw with your tea or soda unless you ask for one ... and probably you will ask more than once to more than one person and wait a long time before you get that straw. They said it was "park policy" to make the diner ask for a straw! While the food was good, the slow service ruined the experience. I would strongly suggest a manager oversee the staff and ensure that service is provided faster. The best dinner I had was the 12 oz. rib eye steak, which was cooked perfectly. The sides of green beans with pinon pine nuts was excellent and the mashed potatoes were good too. We also came for the breakfast buffet and it was generally pretty cold even though we arrived at opening.

Welcome to Stovepipe Wells restaurant where the meals are costly, the food mediocre, and the service slow and unfriendly. There are few options for places to eat, so I recommend coming to Death Valley with a well-stocked cooler and replenishing at a general store (also few and far between).

We loved everything about this place except the price. But it's still better than Furnace Creek. Everyone is friendly and helpful, the pool is awesome, and the restaurant food is pretty good. The close proximity to the Dunes is fabulous...and it's right next to Mosaic Canyon, which is a great hike. We drove out to the Dunes around 9pm to see the stars...breathtaking!
