Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead—home of Iditarod Champion, Jeff King. Husky Homestead is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 40 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome, Alaska with a champion Iditarod team. Cuddle puppies upon arrival and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as the team explodes from the dog yard and runs on our treadmill before hitting the trail for a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Our 2017 tour season begins May 10th and ends on September 21st. Special Note(s): Dress in warm layers. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a jacket, gloves and a hat. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Outside portion of this tour is approximately 45 minutes, inside portion is approximately 45 minutes. We look forward to meeting you!

A visit with Jeff King, master of the Iditarod, and his team, canine and human. Jeff does a great job conveying the concept and stories of the big sled race. With questions still the end, this becomes something of a conversation. Visitors generally have little idea how overwhelming this race can be. In the meet the dogs portion, you can cuddle with a puppy and get to see these athletes perform. Quite a bargain for an informative and entertaining visit.

“Entertaing and Informative”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

If you venture to Denali National Park a visit to the Husky Homestead is a must. Meet the dugs who run the Iditarod Sleddog Race and hear race stories from the man, Jeff King, himself. It's the best deal in the Denali area and maybe the most fun too. Where else can you hold a potential future Iditarod winner in your arms for a photo ? That would be a puppy, not Jeff.

“Great Visit with the Dogs”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

Great learning experience from Jeff and all his staff. It is easy to see that everyone there loves their job and the dogs they care for and train. The puppies were, of course, also very cute and I am not even a large fan of dogs. Jeff's talk was also informative as we knew nothing about the race beforehand. Overall a nice experience and a well organized trip to get there and back, even with the bus almost hitting a moose on the way back.
