Such a nice little spot with lots of stand-along cabins nestled in trees. Each was a super-short stroll from the main lodge/showers with the kitchen and lots of bathrooms. All common areas appear to be cleaned on a daily basis. Tons of utensils, pots/pans in kitchen. Large tables to sit and eat comfortably.

We stayed in a room with bunks that was attached to the office and another bunk room. We heard folks tromping around the adjoining room at times, but didn't keep us up at all.

Staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful.

This is a great place! Cabins are rustic, but clean and comfortable. We were in Highwater and loved the creek burbling outside our door. The creek was loud, which I loved, but might be distracting if you like it quiet. It isn't big, but we didn't spend much time there so it didn't mater much. I liked that it was further from the Octagon than Splatter Rock. My mom stayed in Splatter Rock and liked having a little more space. She was a few steps closer to a bathroom.

Octagon was busy some nights/mornings and the kitchen isn't huge, but it was well stocked. There was a large Indian family that came in and took the place over and cooked some really stinky stuff. They didn't make much room for anyone else. Another night a large tour group came in and it was difficult to get around in the kitchen. We ate most meals in restaurants, so we weren't as frustrated with the kitchen situation as we would have been if we had tried to cook every night. There could have been a few more parking spots.

Bathrooms/showers were clean and functional every day. Staff was helpful and sweet. Restaurants across the street were decent and provided sack lunches for our trip to Wonder Lake. It generally took about 20 minutes to get to the gates of the park from the hostel. Just far enough away for some peace and quiet.

We had a wonderful stay here. I will absolutely return to the hostel if I go back to Denali.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to review us here! We're so happy to read that you enjoyed your stay in our Highwater and Splatter Rock Cabins. We like to call the Highwater our "backpackers dream" cabin- it's smaller in size (and therefore in price) than some of our other cabins, but still offers the peace and quiet of a private cabin, for those who are looking for an alternative to our dormitory accommodations. And you really can't beat the soothing sounds of Carlo Creek right outside of your window! We hope to one day expand our kitchen and common areas, as it does make an impact when we have large groups cooking in there all at the same time. Thanks again for the review and for your feedback. See you next time!

This is a beautiful little spot in Alaska! The layout of the cabins/main house is so lovely, right on rushing Carlos Creek. Plenty of outside and inside spaces to take advantage of.
We stayed in the Octagon Room upstairs in the main house - it was just perfect - double bed with a loft single above - right next to the women's bath/shower room and above the common area/kitchen. Everything was super clean, well-stocked kitchen, excellent coffee (kudos to Jo) EARLY each morning, and welcoming, helpful staff. The kitchen was always jammin' in the evening which made it great fun to meet folks from all over the globe!
It is a bit far from the park, but the shuttle really is scheduled so you can do everything you want to at Denali, catch the train or bus, and get back to the hostel without issue. It also helped tremendously to have the hostel staff book tours for us at a discount!
The hostel is right across the road from Creekside Cafe (see my review), in case you didn't get groceries before heading there.
Very affordable place with lodging options for everyone. If you go to Denali, you should check them out!

Hi and thanks for the awesome review! We love to hear when people enjoy their stay! Many thanks to our hard-working staff for being so diligent and making sure that everything is clean and comfortable for our guests. We're also glad to hear that you enjoyed the coffee- we only serve Alaska-roasted coffee, and although we have switched our blends throughout the years, we try to find something that is fair-trade and organic, too! Thanks again for the review and yup, that's right readers, you can book your tours through our front desk and receive an awesome discount! We're all about sharing the love here at DMMH. Hope to see you again!

We stay in the women's room in the second floor with 6 huge bunk beds. Very clean and cute.
Shared bathroom is clean.
There is a common area where you can cook but is usually busy with families/kids.
Wifi works great.
Beautiful place!

Exceptional hostel. Our group of 3 stayed in the private Two Rocks cabin and had a great experience. The cabin had a little heater, big beds, lots of outlets and a prime location near the main common building and bathrooms/showers. Everything was clean and we didn't experience waits for the showers or bathrooms. Great location - pizza place and cafe across the highway at which we passed many rainy hours. :) Service and price were great. Look forward to returning!

We stayed in the Razorback Cabin at Denali Mountain Morning Hostel last week and were so happy with the experience. The location was great, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the full kitchen in the cabin, and that if we needed anything extra like a sharp knife or a different pan, we could go over to the shared kitchen to use what they had there. There is no bathroom in the cabin, but the bathrooms and showers are steps away so it wasn't an inconvenience at all. There is a firepit on the property right by the creek that runs through it, and the hostel staff keeps a cache of birch wood and kindling so you can start a fire when you want. Overall it was a great place to stay while we were visiting Denali and we will definitely stay there again when we return!

Hi and thanks for the awesome review! We're happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us! Spent 3 nights recently, cabin. overall clean, access good to restrooms. Octagon had a funny smell however, eerily quiet. futon mattress was comfortable. No mosquitos I saw, since quite cold outside. hostel shuttle to Denali wilderness access center limited, especially if you want to catch early shuttle bus to Wonderlake, and same limited service (5:30p,9:30p) back from park, so had to catch Denali Taxi shuttle for $45 a pop. overall experience rustic, good value though.not touristy like the McKinley Chalet, Princess lodgings.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor! We're happy to read that you enjoyed your stay overall. First off, I would like to apologize for the odor you describe in the common area. It is heated by fuel oil, and we received a few remarks about the smell. We had recently had it repaired and upon taking a closer look, we realized that there was a bolt on the heater that hadn't been tightened properly, causing it to leak oil. The issue has been repaired at this time, but again I apologize for the odor while you were there. Our shuttle service is limited, as we are 13 miles from the park entrance so we do have to operate on a set schedule to help keep our costs down, so that we can therefore keep our prices the lowest in the area. We do give plenty of advance notice about the shuttle schedule so that people can make their plans around it, and we do try to make it so that people can still catch shuttles out to Kantishna or Wonder Lake, even though they will not make the earliest ones on our shuttle schedule. We do also offer our shuttle bus for private rentals for people who would like to use it outside of our regularly scheduled times. Thanks again for your review and for the opportunity to respond. We're happy you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you the next time you visit Denali.
