“Beautiful manageable hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

Around 5 miles RT to a lovely lake under multiple waterfalls streaming from the speery glacier. For this 63 year old occasional hiker, it was hard but doable. Mostly uphill going up, but not overly steep. I was tired but it was worth it. Lots of benches at the top around the lake. The trail was busy but good for the whole family. Took us about 4 hrs round trip.

“nice 5-6 mile round trip hike”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

I was here during an absolute down poor, but was amazed that there was still very many people. it was due to the road being closed at this hike so only about a 1/4 of the park open. even with all the people this was still a really nice hike, with a nice river and lots of waterfalls along the way, not sure if that was due to all the rain, but it was very pretty. the end with the lakes encompassed by mountains with about 7 waterfalls flowing off of them was also very nice. I rapped this hike up with the short hike at the beginning for a total of a very easy 5ish miles.

“Bear and Mule Deer, oh my!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

My family of 10 recently went hiking out to Avalanche Lake; our group was comprised of adults and teenagers. This was a fantastic hike! It is absolutely beautiful and is definitely worth it! On our way back, we did see a bear, that started walking towards some of the people in our group. After slowly backing away and making a lot of noise, the bear minded his own business and continued on his way to the water. We also saw a very large mule deer walking right to the side of the path.

One complaint is the parking situation. It was ridiculous trying to get a parking spot to hike the trail. We had to circle around numerous times to find a spot. In order to prevent this, we should have come earlier (we came around lunch time).

“Best short hike in west glacier”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014 via mobile

This is a "must do" hike...don't miss it! Best way to do it is arrive at 8:00 am so parking is a breeze. When you get to the lake, be sure to follow the path further up the shore for more great views.

“If you only to one short hike by Lake McDonald, do this one.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

Absolutely beautiful hike for the family. Do yourself a favor and arrive by 8:00 am and parking is easy and not crowded. Last tip...go past the initial lake entry and follow the small trail another quarter mile to access the shore further up. And don't forget the camera...this is spectacular.
