We drove up from Williams, AZ beginning at 4:30 a.m., so arrived at the South Rim around 6:20 a.m. The rising sun cast interesting shadows at our location, and more so in the canyon. This was a return visit for both my wife and I. My previous visit was in 1973 with three children, one of whom wanted to go around the minimum fence that was provided--to get a better view. We had an 8 mm Brownie Hawkeye camera which was used on our extended trip--including the time when one was beyond the minimum fence at that time: MUCH better safety fence now!

I got the chance to visit Gran Canyon, one of the most famous National park of Arizona in August. Despite the high season the park wasn’t so crowded and, as we had just few Hours to visit it, we decided to take the bus shuttle in the afternoon to hermit trail in order to watch the sunset.

This is one of the most panoramic Route and in my opionion is the best if you have limited time to visit and during the Summer when the temperature is very high. I particullary appreciate Hopi point that is one of the most Scenic view.

The day after we drove to West Rim trail and visited the tower.

This was truly breathtaking and a remarkable place to see. It is really beyond belief how such a thing could be formed. It really does live up to the title of a natural wonder of the world.

It's been on my To-do list to get down to the river and up in a day and it worked as planned. Left at sunrise and was back at the south rim around noon. I surely would not recommend it for a non-trained person.
I highly recommend the S Kaibab descent and returning through Bright Angel. The landscape is stunning wherever you are.
We stayed in Tusayan and it's been a good decision since all parking places were heavily filled-up. The shuttle bus made things very easy.

This is by far the most affordable way to do the canyon!! Many people we know have done the west rim tour with the skywalk and have said that this is the much better route to go!!!!
