“Great overlook:the drive isn't anything special”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2014

But that could be because I was the driver and was trying to keep my eyes on the road.
There were some serious dropoffs and no rails.
Lots of twists and turns and a slow speed limit.
It was only a few miles but took fifteen to twenty minutes each way.
Personally, I would not be thrilled about driving this route at night, especially with all of the wildlife out, great night views notwithstanding.
I had wanted to write a review of the Point Imperial lookout itself, but could not find that option.
I would have given the lookout a five.
It is the highest point in the park (8800 feet) and the views are spectacular.
The parking lot is large.
The short path to the lookout is paved, though quite rocky at the end.
There are benches to sit on and admire the view.
Do include this as part of your trip, even if you don't have time to get to the further Cape Royal.
If you have time, also hike at least part of the Ken Patrick trail. The views of the canyon from there are a bit different.

“Great drive to the Point Imperial Trail”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

The drive is very nice to the trailhead. We did the trail (only passed about 10 people on up and back). The trail is very good. There are views of the canyon that show up when the trail moves closer to the edge. The best part of this hike is walking through the burn areas from Outlet fire. The new growth is coming up with lots of wildflowers and birds.

“Worth the views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

Shorter drive than Cape Royal drive, with equally spectacular views. I think the view at Point Imperial is probably the best of all the views on either drive. Well worth taking the time to drive out and get out at the various view points. How many times are you ever going to be there?

“What a great place to star gaze!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2012

At cape royal road intersection take the left fork up the road 3 miles to the viewpoint. There is ample parking , clean pit toilets,an overlook area with guard rails, and a trail to explore.
The highest viewpoint on any rim of the canyon gives you views of the vermillion cliffs, the painted desert, navajo mt. and more.
At night the stars come out and this is a great place to see them. ( just be careful driving) at dark there are alot of deer around.
The viewpoint is a large one with plenty of room for everyone. The viewing platform alone could hold around 12 or so. To add there is a walking path to explore that gives a different vantage point than the lookout. I liked this spot for evening photos.

“Stunning early morning views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2012

This is the highest point on the North Rim and offers the most amazing views. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles on a hazy day the view is quite eerily beautiful.
