Two couples (sisters and their husbands) on a rim to rim hike from North rim to the South rim. On our third day of hiking, we travelled from Bright Angel Campground to Indian Gardens. After arriving in Indian Gardens, we set up camp leaving the backpacks in camp and took a side trip to Plateau Point - great views and we even had cell reception there. Well worth the hike! There is a drinking water fountain there - go figure. The water was hot, but after we let it run a few minutes, it cooled down. There was a rattlesnake in camp which was the excitement. We attended a ranger talk on the Kolb Brothers (photographers). The ranger, Emily, was excellent and answered all our questions.
This was probably the nicest campground of the three (Cottonwood, Bright Angel, and Indian Garden) because each site had a covered shelter which worked for shade as well as rain protection (if needed). No flush toilets like Bright Angel, but there was plenty of vegetation and a nice little natural pool to cool off in.
We look forward to returning to this campground in the future.
