My family and I took the shuttle and rented bikes for an amazing ride downhill (mostly) through The Grand Canyon. Our driver, Robert was very friendly, and informative. We did not purchase the tour, but did not feel like we missed out.

If you're not a hiker and hate the crowds, bike rental is a great offbeat approach to exploring the Grand Canyon. My recommendation would be to reserve for 9am and get there early - the shop also doubles as a cafe, so you can grab breakfast and go. The staff took great care to explain the bikes, fit our helmets, and let us practice putting the bike into the bus bike rack. We rode to the Hermit bus transfer point and put our bikes on the bus up to Hopi Point. Rode to Hermit's Rest and then put the bikes back on the bus all the way back to the visitor center.

IMPORTANT note: Hermit's Rest is an important stop as it has a kiosk / bathroom / water, but it is the least interesting stop on that route. Spend more time at the other viewpoints.

Keep in mind that even those who are fit may struggle due to the elevation. The bikes have shocks on the seats. Bikes are well maintained, staff is pleasant, efficient and helpful. Definitely the best possible way to see the canyon if you're not a hiker.

We took the morning guided ride to Hermit's Rest and it was wonderful. There are a few short moderate uphills, but 90% of it is downhill. We stopped at several lookouts and didn't feel rushed. I think that this is a nicer (although kind of expensive) way to see Hermit's Road than jumping on and off the bus.

Definitely the best way to view the canyon.

Long route out and back is about 40km and doable in about 2 hours at a fair pace.

This allows you to get away from the hoards of people and enjoy some incredible views.

They were located next to the Visitors Center which made it easy to find. It was fairly quick to get all the paperwork filled out, helmets and bikes fitted. My friends and I only had a short time to ride so we went to the closest Outlook about a mile and 1/2 away. The bike path is great. You ride along the rim the whole time at least once you pass the visitor parking area. There are a ton of dirt paths to walk your bike out to the edge to get fun pictures or a beautiful view. I recommend renting bikes. It was a lot of fun! And cheap too! And a bonus was a fruit smoothie from the cafe that is attached to the bike rental office.
