Owner description: Many of the Grand Canyon's most spectacular panoramas can be viewed along this scenic drive, including Point Imperial and Cape Royal itself (elevation 7,865 feet,) the southernmost viewpoint on the North Rim.

As recommended by the staff at the North Rim Lodge, this is the best drive on the north side. Superb views, less people and some great short walks. Get out of the car at all the pull-outs and take a walk out to the rim - you will not be disappointed.

The cape royal drive will take about 45 min. from the north rim lodge. There are no services along the road so i would bring a cooler and lunch.
Along the way there are several wonderful viewpoints to see. Some have restrooms but not all.vista encantada has picnick tables . Be sure to see angles window . On the way back you can continue to point imperial We spent most the day touring on this road.

This is a great place to see the Colorado River from the North Rim. The drive gives great views of Marble Canyon, Clear Creek Canyon, and offers numerous day hiking options.

Probably the best views of the canyon from here - it is worth the drive if you want impressive pictures!

Cape Royal Drive is full of terrific sights, but the most amazing to us was the view of Angel's Window as you walk down Angel's Window trail at the end of the drive. You can't believe your eyes! it looks like an optical illusion, and you will waste a lot of time taking bad photos to try to capture it. Late afternoon is the best time to see the sun on the canyon through the window with the foreground in shadow as the photo shown for the listing of this attraction shows. Every other pulloff had some vista that you just have to photograph as well (again you need later afternoon light), and we spent from 3-8 pm making the drive from the lodge to Cape Royal and back.
The guide books tell you to see the sunset at Cape Royal, but we chickened out and drove back slightly before that so as not to be on the winding roads after dark. That road passes through lovely country as well.
There were not more than 6 of us at any of the stops along the way when we were there in mid-September, so you can experience the grandeur in peace.
