Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim

When you enter the lobby of this rustic lodge watch out. The view straight ahead, through the large picture windows, will take your breath away and make you forget to look where you're walking...stairs down ahead to the lounge area and stairs to the right to the dining room. Wife and I came here by 5-hour shuttle from the south rim for one night before starting our 5-day, rim2rim hike across the Grand Canyon. This facility is located right on the edge of the canyon with far fewer visitors than the South Rim. The staff was great. We didn't have ponchos for our hike and the sky was threatening. The receptionist gave us two large white plastic trash bags. Although we were called marshmellows the next day by other hikers we stayed dry. The room was clean, quiet and spacious so we could spread out our stuff for one last check before our hike. We did this same hike about 10 years ago and stayed here then with the same great experiences. Great time!

Room Tip: If you are staying in one of the distant cabins, like we did, the lodge staff will drive you out the...

Secluded, quiet, magical!

After visiting the South rim for 3 days we traveled ot the north rim for two additional and so glad we saw both sides! They are very, very different. The views are fantastic the same, but the experiences are both great in their unique ways. North lodge is quiet and cabins were well-kept. We got in late and felt too tired to eat in the restaurant so we took ourt pizza from the cafe and ate in our quaint little cabin which was a nice break for eating out all week. We slept well in the quietness of the area as well, with our windows open ot he fresh Grand Canyon AIR!!! Stay here. Make the time to travel to the North rim!

Room Tip: Make reservation EARLY!! We had to plan our entire road trip around when we could get a room at bot...

Great visit with our family of four. North Rim is less crowded and lovely overall. We enjoyed our cabin accommodations. Nice restaurant on site too. The Grand Canyon is so beautiful, what a fantastic vacation! We hope to return!

We stayed at the Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim as a launching point for our Rim-to-Rim hike. We knew we would not be there long so we opted for the most basic accommodation available: the Motel Rooms. Rooms at the Canyon are hard to come by so we reserved ours 13 months in advance. The motel rooms are extremely small and simple. They consist of one queen sized bed and a tiny bathroom. The website says these rooms can sleep three people with a rollaway bed, but I would not recommend it as it was crowded enough with just two people. The doors open to the outside and people can look right into your window if you don't keep the curtains shut. There is no television and no air conditioning, but the window does open if your room starts to feel stuffy. If I had one regret, its that we did not put an extra day into our schedule to spend at the North Rim. The crowds are much thinner on this side of the Canyon and I would have liked to explore more of the area. We did arrive in time to see the sunset over the Canyon which was beautiful. Nevertheless, our time here was short as we began our decent to the canyon floor early the next morning.

Room Tip: All rooms face one of two directions, either the woods or the street. We choose a room facing the w...

Have to share that the North Rim is far less crowded, and thus easier to travel around in high season. The Gr Canyon Lodge very well could be the ONLY place you can stay. In spite of that captive market, we found the accommodations pleasant, the staff teriffic and the food good.

Room Tip: We were fortunate to book what is called a 'rim side pioneer cabin'. These are literally on...

This was a fun experience because we were at the Grand Canyon, after all...how could it not be fun?! However, be careful if you choose to stay in one of the rustic cabins. Ours was very close to the Bright Angel Trail and the public restrooms were nearby. There is no A/C so we had the windows open all night. Apparently, parents were allowing their young teens to wander about unsupervised (which really surprised us as the cliffs were nearby and it was very dark). In any event, it was very noisy in this area so avoid it if possible. In addition, the beds were small and the room was too warm (remember, no A/C). If we were to go again we would definitely choose the lodge rooms. Do not miss the view from the Lodge restaurant's balcony/patio overlooking the canyon...it is absolutely beautiful. The food was not great, and definitely not worth the price...but the view was priceless!!

Room Tip: We were in a cabin with a small bed and no A/C. If we go again we would choose a room in the Lodge.

We decided to make this our base when we did the North Rim last summer. Not that there was any other choice...when going to Grand Canyon from the north, aside from camping, there's Grand Canyon Lodge and that's it! The rooms aren't bad, though very small, especially the bathroom. But I guess Grand Canyon isn't about the lodging! The lodge is very cozy and romantic, so I would definitely recommend the stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side, overlooking the park.
