Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim

You just can't beat the views from the lodge, the patio, and the nearby trails. We stayed in a cabin behind the visitor center, which was both roomy and quite cozy in the cool weather with a gas fireplace. The cabins are quite close together and yet they still felt private.

After a grueling trip driving from Yellowstone to the Grand canyon, we arrived to the North Rim and took our chances - luckily we found a cabin available. The lady at the reception was very helpful and got us the room. After checking in - we went to the saloon for a drink, then a steak dinner. I liked it all. The Lodge mixes well with the view - great setting. nice views. The Cabin was a lodge - mountain lodge - but very well kept with all the needed amenities - comfortable bed etc.,

If ever in the Grand Canyon - I highly recommend that you spend a weekend there - its well worth it.

Room Tip: Book a year in advance -- those places fill up quickly.

This was my second time to the North Rim and staying in their cabins. I LOVE this place. This place is so special, so unique and like it's own little mini wonderful world. The first time - it was a bit confusing when we got there and didn't know where to check in or park but you have to park in the big main lot - walk to the lodge to check in - and then if you have a lot of stuff they send a golf cart out to help you. We stayed in the frontier cabins twice - and had a blast. They are just adorably cute and cozy and fun - and overall we lucked out with our adjoining neighbors. The walls are paper thin - so if you did have noisy neighbors it would be a huge bummer for sure. We were in a cabin just a stones throw away from the lodge and that was great. We treated ourself one night to the bigger fancier rim view cabin and WOW - that is an experience everyone should have at least once. Really nice cabins, fireplace, fridge, and did I mention the rim view? We could wake up in bed and look at the canyon - amazing. No matter how long we stay at the North Rim, it is NEVER enough time.........allow more days than you think - and just soak it all up, sit on the deck, relax, hike to Bright Angel Point a couple times a day.............and stay in a cute cabin!

Room Tip: We had a cabin close to the lodge and that was great.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The hotel was clean and inviting, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and the breakfast was great.I'd have to say the breakfast was amazing 5 stars for breakfast!!! Anyway the bed was cozy, pool was well heated, and the heater wasn't to noisy.

This is a fantastic place to stay because of the location -- if you can get in. We ended up in a motel-type room in one of several accommodation blocks situated a few hundred yards from the main lodge, and it was fine for one night. The benefit is you are a few minutes from the beautiful lodge building and the rim and its trails.

It took almost two years to reserve a rim view cabin, finally I realized I had to call as soon as reservations were being accepted. If rim view is also your dream, here is some advice..there are only four cabins that are actually on the rim..others advertised as rim view are nice, much nearer than those in other areas..but not on the rim! The four cabins on the rim are 309, 306, 305 and 301..The porch of 309 provides a side rim view..the other three have porches directly over the rim. In fact if you or any of your party are acrophobic, these cabins aren't for you..
If you have a lot of luggage, the Lodge provides a shuttle from the main entrance to your cabin.

My husband and I requested two beds, and so we had a cabin for "four"..hmm, can't imagine that, but everyone has their own space requirements..For just two, the cabin was great. Nicely laid out, a front bed-sitting area with table, chairs and desk, a small walled off office area handy for equipment and charging electronics ..or privacy if you have lots of people..and a bathroom of reasonable size..There was a gas fireplace, a nice touch, but ran out of gas after the second night.

The Bright Angel Trail is steps from the rim view cabins, as is the transept trail, which connects the Main Lodge area with campgrounds/other cabins. Since I was traveling with a companion who was not going to hike long distances, I found the transept trail inviting and quiet..not with the hordes of other people generally on these trails..and with fine views.

The dinning options are few. I recommend the main dinning room if you can afford it..the views are wonderful and the food is quite good. Make reservations way in advance!! There is also a Tavern which serves food, but that was unrelentingly noisy and not inviting..but again, everyone is different. The deli makes very good sandwiches for excursions. All of these options are centered around or in the main lodge. The only wifi is a drive away at the General Store which serves the campground. There is another deli there and basic supplies.

I also highly recommend an excursion to Point Imperial, highest point in the park..astounding views!!

Room Tip: Cabins actually on the rim, with overlooking porches..301, 305, 306 and 309..not for the acrophobic!
