My husband, daughter and I stayed in a cabin for one night before they hiked rim to rim. I really enjoyed our stay. These are perfect to stay in while visiting the North Rim. I did read other reviews and some people were pretty harsh, but you are here to enjoy the canyon ... not be inside! For sleeping and showering they were great!

This hotel is the only lodging at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It consists of a main lodge/lobby with dining room and assorted duplex cabins. The location is superb, right at the rim with views from most cabins. The rooms themselves have been updated but may be a bit rustic for some. I found it has just the right atmosphere for this park. There are porches and rocking chairs in front of each room. Downside, the cabin rooms are not air conditioned, possibly an issue in July and August. We were not uncomfortable in June. Cost for a 2 person double bed room was $194.20 with tax. This is a bit higher than the in-season average but the location is excellent. The dining room is moderately expensive but the food is good and service is attentive. There are deli and coffee shop venues in the same complex as alternatives.

Room Tip: Book at least 8 months in advanced.

The cabins were small (a double bed and a single bed) with windows over the beds, a couple of shelves and a desk. Not much but you don't need a lot. We were here with a Road Scholar tour and found these cabins to be a great improvement over those at the south rim. They were recently updated so that the carpet and tile and bathroom were clean and fresh and new. The entire north rim is 'cozy'. The breakfast buffet at the lodge dining room was excellent and the dinners ok. For the latter we had choices particular to Road Scholar only. WE enjoyed the area very much for our 2 night stay. The ranger talks and walks were excellent.

Room Tip: This is rustic country..all the cabins seemed to be alike. Note that you may be hearing your 'n...

We stayed in one of the Pioneer Cabins for two nights at the end of May. The Lodge itself is great with amazing views of the canyon from the sunroom, outside veranda and lookout points. We also really enjoyed dining in the restaurant and the staff were extremely helpful. Our only negative feedback would be in relation to the Pioneer Cabins that are advertised as comfortably sleeping 6 - we didn't think so as we were 4 adults and 1 child and it was a little too cosy! I'd say they would comfortably fit 4. Quite liked the rustic look but they were also very dark inside in comparison to the cabins we stayed at in the South. We would love to go back some day but would look at alternatives to the Pioneer Cabins.

The actual lodge is a great looking building that is constructed from wood beams and stone. Just across from the check in desk is an incredible inside viewing area with tall, wide windows looking out south across the Grand Canyon. The dining room also has some great views of the canyon, and we listened to a ranger presentation later in the evening in a ballroom-like room. The lodge also has smaller buildings around it - a bar, a small cafeteria and a gift shop. The actual rooms aren't in the lodge, but are instead duplex cabins just north of the lodge building. I know it's all about location, especially since we were starting an early hike the next day, but the room was very basic. The beds were old and it is a thin connecting door separating the two sides of the cabin (we heard every word of some family drama with kids not wanting to go to bed at 10 pm). The lodge does start running free shuttles to the trail head at 5:30 am, so that is a nice amenity if you are hiking.

This lodge is one of the worst of its' kind that caters to the one night traveler. The rooms are rustic and that is okay but the food and service were awful. The problem is that the nearest place to eat other than at the Lodge is 60 miles away...and they know that your held captive.

I do rim to rim every year so I am forced to stay there as there are no other options. The 7 times I've eaten there have all been horrible. Next Spring I am going to bring a sandwich and forget about the restaurant.

The location is second to none. Right on the rim. It is worth the travel to see the N rim as it is not congested like the S rim. Just try not to have to eat their gruel.

Room Tip: Try and get a rim side cabin. It will cost you a bit more but it will be worth the extra cost.

Lovely rustic cabin in a great location 50 metres from rim. Housekeeping not so good with bed not properly made, tissues not replaced and carpet not vacuumed properly. Breakfast off menu good, better than buffet. Dinner menu and service good, but be prepared to wait for seating.
