North Rim Campground

Stayed here many times on my visits to the USA first time was 14years ago( way before TA existed!!) went on the recomendation of a friend who said that the grand canyon is the most visited place on earth and that 90% of that number visit the South Rim which was way crowded even then (will cover that place in a separate review....don't get too excited!!).
The campground is lovely and peaceful, with each plot having plenty of space to pitch a few quite large tents restrooms are adequate with good showers too and a decent fire ring.
Being only a mile from the lodge and view points it is very convienient.
The camp store seems to stock most vitals should you forget anything it is a bit pricey but hey.. you are about 50 miles from the main highway and next nearest store.
It has to be said the park rangers do an outstanding job they have never failed to impress me which ever park i visit

Good campsite. Near enough to the rim to be very accessible but far enoughaway to feel secluded.

Pitches are far enough apart to keep disturbance to a minimum. Toilets and showers are pretty clean and tidy.

This is a lovely set out camp ground with lots of space between sites. We had a camp site on the rim which was more private than the sites in the middle of the camp ground. From many of these outer rim sites you can see the canyon. The showers and toilets were clean and easy to use. The proximity of the camp ground to the walks around the rim is an added bonus. We walked the Transept Trail, Bright Angel Point and Widforss. You do have to drive a to Widforss but it is worth the effort. It is best to start your walking early in the morning and to remember to take plenty of water and snacks. There is also a general store within walking distance which sells groceries and souvenirs. Best to avoid the toilets next to the store because these are very run down and not very clean.

Room Tip: Choose a camp site on the outer rim.

This is my 1st outdoor camping in the US and I decided to try the GCanyon North Rim on Sept 26, 2013 at site #57. I was surprised it was. Mine was a 2man tent and easily can accomodate a 10 man tent. The ground was not cold and that was comforting. It was the wind that brought that slipped the cold breeze into the tent. The toilet was clean, really amazing with toilet papers. There is also a shower and a laundromat that takes quarters. The shower area was heated. Nearby is a grocery store that provides free wifi. About 200 feet away, We can walk to view the canyon . I plan to spend more days next year and perhaps in the months of May or August. The day we left the park for Antelope Canyon, the park shut down.

Less than a mile from the Lodge, and close to trailhead for hiking into the Canyon. Tall trees but no privacy due to lack of understory. Spacious sites but no hookups. Pull-through for RVs. The sites on the outside have much better views. Inside you see your neighbors. Tent sites are not ideal. Charging for showers is an insult given the fees for sites; but it was a generous six minutes for six quarters, and firehose pressure with warm water. Laundry and general store. One of the rangers chided my girlfriend for walking between sites to the toilets, which was ridiculous given the ample distances, obvious pathways, and vacant sites. Surely they have better things to do.

Room Tip: Find a site on the outside with a view of the Canyon.

We were so lucky to drive in on Labor Day weekend and find an RV space for two nights in the premier "canyon view" portion on the south side of the campground. Ranger Allen Olsen was very helpful in helping us with the reservation, and our time there was wonderful!

The campground itself is beautiful, one side of it is right next to the canyon. We stayed at the tent-only sites (T7) and the site was fine except that when we booked the site, it appeared that the parking was right next to the tent site. This is not the case, the parking was not right next the site, we actually had to walk through T8 to get to our site. This was a little annoying, so I would recommend booking one of the sites in the middle if you want a tent-only site. The bathrooms next to the campsites were clean, but the showers were pretty gross and they are coin operated, so make sure you bring quarters or singles for the coin machine.
