Incredible home perfectly situated from the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff while being in the middle of nowhere. Lovely host and a beautiful home with everything you could think of when away from home.
We rented this house for a few nights as a base to visit the Grand Canyon and surrounding Flagstaff sites. The owner, Rob, was gracious and helpful in his communications and recommendations prior to our visit, and met us at the house when we arrived to give us the full tour. The house was exactly what we were hoping for, rustic but very comfortable, just far enough outside of Flagstaff to have some privacy, and a magnificent view to enjoy. We used one of the tour companies (All Star-highly recommend) Rob suggested for an all day tour of the Canyon and they picked us up at the house, which was very convenient as we had several couples. The sky is amazing at night with more stars than we've seen in years. Thanks again to Rob for making our stay so enjoyable, and so glad we decided to skip the hotels in Flagstaff and Tusayan for a better canyon experience.
A few notes on the house, though it is "off the grid", we had no problems with any of the amenities, and the wifi worked fine. There is no broadcast TV, but we didn't really miss it as we were gone all day and watched a few of the DVD's at the house at night. More importantly to note is the bedroom setups, the two main BR's are perfectly fine, but as shown on the website the third BR is truly a loft, it does not have a separate bathroom, and the only access to it is to climb a ladder. Kids will probably love it, but as we were three couples whose ladder climbing days are behind them, we opted for the inflatable mattress which Rob provides, and it worked out fine.
This house was so great. Its conveniently located close to Flagstaff, Sedona and Grand Canyon. It’s very peaceful with beautiful views. Rob, the owner, gave so many great suggestions of best things to do and see that really made the trip for us. Highly recommend!!
The Mountain Star has a fantastic view of the Humphrey's Peak the highest point in AZ. The night sky is phenomenal and the best location in the US to star gaze. The location is great to make day trips to the Grand Canyon or Oak Creek Canyon/Sedona. The owner (Rob) is a very nice guy. He goes the extra mile to ensure his guests have all the information to choose the very best and scenic areas to see during their stay. I would highly recommend this place to stay if you want the best.
This is our first time staying in a lodging in flagstaff and we are thoroughly impressed by the place. The resort packed full of facilities including 3 bed rooms, a washer and dryer, BBQ grill, 2 fire pits, functional and fully furnished kitchen, TV with DVD and a wide selection of DVD movies and even a small gym and drumb set.
We had a great time in the lodging, having our meals, spending time playing the board games provided and even making s'mores in the fire pit. Night time is a wonder full time for star gazing and some Astrophotography as there is little light pollution in the area.
The place tends to get a little cold in the night so a little clothing goes a long way.
The information folder bt Rob goes a long way in helping plan our trip to the grand Canyon with hiking routes and places to dine and replenish our energy.
I would highly recommend this place for any one who wants a full experience out of town and visit the Grand Canyon
Used this as a place to stay for visiting the Grand Canyon and catch up with family from abroad. Every room nicely decorated with unique art and touches, I woke up one morning for sunrise and everyone loved the peace and stars at night. A wonderful time had by all and would love to come back another time to explore the bits we didn't quite get round to.
The Mountain Star was easily the best experience with travel accommodations I have ever had. The owner, Rob, had and an outstanding home and made us feel as if we were staying with a relative or family friend. He had great attention to detail with regard to the area and hidden gems that were amazing to see and explore, and were off the beaten track so not crowded with other tourists. The efforts he made to offer this to his guests should be commended, which I can only attempt to do with such limited space for a review. Thank you, Rob, for everything!
