“Upgrading needed but in the Grand Canyon Park”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

If all one wants is a room, this is the place to stay. The room was clean but severely dated. There is no air conditioning. The room was hot upon checking into it, While it had 2 fans to help ventilation, unfortunately, the windows are not secure to keep partially opened. So it was a bit warm through out the night. While it was much cooler at night, the building retains the heat. The bed was ok, The pillows were so so. The towels were stiff, actually rough. The typical complimentary lotion was half full. The TV was a tube TV with poor reception. The mini refrigerator generates significant heat. It is best to unplug it. There are other lodges on the southern rim that may be much better. Bring a flashlight to walk around the area as there is no street lighting. The Grand Canyon hike and National Park was as expected. There is a General Store that one can get staples. The souvenirs were a bit cheaper there.

Room Tip: Get a room that is not facing the bus parking lot or train tracks

Quiet, comfortable and slightly rustic lodge near the South Rim. The outside looks like a summer camp cabin and it feels that way with lots of smaller lodges. Exterior doorways. Friendly staff and large cafeteria for meals plus a bar. Approx 15-20 minute walk from the lodge to the rim of the Canyon - it would be a decent walk and is not close. There's a free shuttle.

We stayed in the motel rooms that had air conditioning, with two queen beds and a little balcony. The room had a lovely vaulted ceiling which made it more pleasant. It did not give you a clean feeling, probably because the furnishings are a bit old and definitely showing their age. Towels were exfoliating and could have been used to complete woodworking projects, but I did enjoy my stay here. The restaurant/food court was much nicer than I expected, the staff was friendly, and I liked staying inside a national park. It is very close to the canyon and to the red line of shuttle buses, but it is very very hard to figure out how to walk to the canyon--I wandered the wrong way and got really turned around and wasted a lot of time. The next day I followed a little laminated sign stuck to the back of the bus stop sign and managed to find the path that led right to the red shuttle bus and then to the rim. (The blue shuttle bus stops right outside and that will take you to the village and to the yellow shuttle, but it is also very nice to be able to walk directly to the red bus and take it all the way out to the hermit's rest area of the park.) If you stay here, don't expect super luxury or even nice hampton inn accommodations , but there is still a lot to appreciate.

This place was a decent rate so we stayed the night there just to experience one night at the park. It's small and basic, but clean. We didn't eat at the cafeteria. We had stopped to eat in Cameron which was well worth the loop drive to get over there. There's a couple scenic stopping points with great views along the way. Then we drove back out through flagstaff to see both entrance points to the South Rim.

Very simple rooms - no air - generally not needed - fans are in rooms and windows open -- part of a complex very close to canyon rim. Quick walk down a trail, 1/4 mile. The main building houses a very nice large variety of cafeteria style foods, pizza to salads to meals to burgers etc. Serves all day long. Hotel check in is here - sign up desk for canyon tours and services - bus stops at front door - and a very nice shop for souvenir's. If only spending 1 night best value. Watch for wildlife around the area - Elk, Deer etc. nice location in the woods.
This was my 2nd stay here. Reservation and desk staff are very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for building 1,3 or 5 -- 2nd floor

This hotel is very outdated. The room was dirty, the bed linens and towels were just awful. The sliding window to go outside to your "deck" was in such bad repair it was almost impossible to open! The a/c did not keep the room cool. We booked a package trip from the grand canyon railway with a train trip and bus tour of the rim. This was the only hotel that was offered to spend 1 night at the canyon. After a long day we had to stand in a long line to check in and then our room was not ready. The staff were not helpful or friendly at all. Our bus tour included lunch at a cafeteria at this hotel where once again we had to stand in a long line to get our food which could not be eaten. I am very disappointed that the AAA endorses this hotel for this package as there are several other hotels at the canyon that seem much better with decent food.
