Owner description: The highest peak in the park.

Unfortunately, we went on a very rainy, overcast day however it was still an amazing experience!! The drive up tested my nerves a bit but only because it was raining pretty hard. Go early since there are only so many parking places. Lots of parking but Lots of people go there too. We walked up the .5 mile paved path. It steadily goes up and unless you are a workout queen, you'll feel it. Lots of people breathing heavy on the way up. Take your time and just go for it. Great photo ops all around. There are restrooms too!!

Clingman's Dome is the highest point in the The Smokys, and is obtainable via a short hike to an observation deck. The road to the parking area is closed in the winter, and can get icy in early spring. The hike up is short n seer, but the rewards are some of the best views in the park. This is a must visit if traveling on newfound Gap rd.. Enjoj

Unfortunately we went when there was rain in the forecast and even though it didn't rain on us we couldn't see much of anything. The hike is pretty steep but is paved all the way to the top and has a lot of benches to rest on. I believe they are marked every tenth of a mile and the hike is only .5 miles one way. Definitely worth doing if you have the free time. Parking is a mess like must attractions in the park but if you do a few laps you can find a spot.

Try to hit this when the weather is clear. If it's cloudy/overcast, it's not worth your time - do another hike at lower elevation instead. Beautiful views of 7 states from the top of the dome, although you obviously can't tell one from the other. The trek to the top was very steep, so be prepared. No strollers or wheelchairs - makes sense. If you have ankle, knee or hip issues, you may want to think twice about this. The trip down can be almost worse than the trip up.

Although it was a bit of a hike to the observation deck, the trail was nicely paved and not too strenuous. The benches to rest on along the way helped. Once at the top, the views were amazing! We would definitely go back if in the area.
