Owner description: A scenic hiking and horseback riding trail that features major waterfalls, beautiful pools and an eerie bamboo forest.

Unbelievable!!!! We started at the seven pools, which were inaccessible due to the water levels and currents being high and strong. Visited this part 3-1/2 years ago, but the falls thus time were better.
Then we started the hike up the trail. It kept getting better and better. Venturing off the trail (in non cliff areas), lead to views that were even better than from on the trail.
When we reached the bamboo forest, our group was in awe!! Not thinking it could get much better, we journeyed on. Keep you eye out through the tree tops, because you will see some waterfalls up top, at least that is what we though. About a 1/4 mile later we were in view of the rest of the 400' fall. Words can not describe it. Getting close to the falls, you will be surprised by the wind generated by the falling water. This is a site you have to see. It is breath taking. About the hike. Four of the six of our group are runners, two nearly 60 years old. The remaining two were in so so shape. It is about a 2 mile trek, and it is hot and humid. If you are planning this trip and you are not in shape, this will be your incentive. Take your time. Bring water to drink and some snacks to munch on. Don't wear sandals. This trail should be on the top of you list of things to do in Maui.

This is a beautiful trail with really nice looking bamboo grove on the way. The best part is the waterfall at the end of the trail. Though the access to the waterfall is restricted many still go to the fall. Rocks to the fall are very slippery with danger of getting seriously injured.

Just did this yesterday - 7/9/14. The drive and the hike take most of the day. We left Kihei at 7am and returned at 4pm. All the traffic coming in as we were leaving made us realize how peaceful and enjoyable our drive in and hike was. The most lush green place I've ever seen, enjoy!!!

We had a great time hiking the Pipiwai Trail. The terrain is a little rocky, but it is an easy hike. Our favorite part was the bamboo forest and obviously the waterfall at the end of the trail. The drive on the road to Hana is awful, but hiking this trail was almost worth it! It took us about 2.5 hours round trip (boyfriend 27, me 26, both athletic).

This was a really fun trail. Difficult to get to (end of road to Hana) but a good one. As I mentioned, my favorite part was the bamboo forest - I hike a lot and this was my first experience with it. We went down to the waterfall pools afterwards for a quick swim.

Tip: Try to get there no later than 2-3pm
